Just our luck! I got an e-mail from USCIS saying we missed my husband's biometrics appointment last week. Pretty angry considering just a few days ago they told us we didn't have one, and we never received a letter. Spent my lunch break on the phone with USCIS trying to straighten this out and reschedule the appointment. The new biometrics letter and our RFE should be in the mail by next week, but if they're not, they have to fax them to us. Next up, calling up SSA again to bother them about my husband's SSN, because 6 weeks of waiting is ridiculous.

Guess we used up all our immigration luck since we had a really easy K1 visa process. Who said AOS was less stressful? Haha.

Just a quick update on Biometrics - My wife had her appointment this morning in Dallas. Everything took about 30 minutes and was fairly painless. BUT - It's a good thing we brought our marriage certificate. Since she is taking my last name and her maiden name is on her passport, they had us wait for about 10 minutes for an ACS Manager to approve everything with the marriage certificate.

I think I read an earlier post that someone brought their marriage certificate and they didn't ask to see it. I guess it all depends on who is checking you in at the time and what kind of mood they are in. So to be on the safe side, bring your marriage cert if adjusting from K-1.

They look at the name on your letter, so as long as your ID and letter matches you don't have to bring the certificate.

I would go under the assumption of better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

I think if you are keeping your last name it shouldn't be a problem. When we checked in and the lady noticed the last name was different, she asked my wife if she had anything else that showed <my last name> like a driver license or State ID. She didn't specifically ask for the marriage certificate but it was the only thing we have that has my last name.

Good luck! as I mentioned, the Dallas office was pretty quick and painless. Hope you have the same luck.

Guess we used up all our immigration luck since we had a really easy K1 visa process. Who said AOS was less stressful? Haha.

I can't help about the biometrics, but for the SSN, I tried calling the national number yesterday and apparently only the local offices have access to the online records (this was really odd, as we had tried calling the national number before, and someone took down my husband's name and seemed to be looking something up...). Regardless, I think the best thing to do would be to call the local office and request a supervisor. Unfortunately, they're the only semi-competent ones half the time.

Also, the agent on the phone said DHS is really backed up and the 4 week timeline is more like 6 weeks. He said that it sort of gets shuffled to an internal department that has no line to the public, so there's no way we can contact immigration to check the status. Everything has to be done through the SSA sadly.

MASH, my experience. :)

I handed them the letter and my driver's license (married name, same on letter). They asked for my passport (maiden name). Don't know why. Then they asked me for a marriage certificate to prove the name change. I had the original, but they only took a look to confirm and gave it back.

So just bring everything. I did not expect those questions, so I was glad I brought it just in case.

Bio appt is at noon today. Will let you all know how it goes.

Thanks to those who suggested bringing the marriage cert, not sure I would have thought to bring it. Am going to bring my SSN as well since it has my married name on it along with my passport and appt letter.
