Timeline

I just discovered this forum and am wondering if anyone else has a similar experience to me. I had my interview in Chicago almost 2 months ago (first week of June), and we were verbally told we would be approved and to expect the greencard in approx 4 weeks. The i-485 case online is still set to Ready to Schedule interview".

I have been in the US on and off for a decade on work visas (First an L1, then E3 visas). I met my wife in October 2013, and we married in January of this year. We have lived together since June 2015. The interview appeared to go very well, a few questions, we had plenty of photos, joint lease, insurance, etc. We were never separated. My wife is a high income earner, so we are nowhere near poverty line guidelines, and neither of us has ever been arrested/charged with a crime.

We lodged a request for status mid last week with our Senator, who just came back with "our application is in review, we can lodge another request in 30 days". Does anyone know what this means? It almost looks like a standardized response.

I have a 12 month EAD/AP card in April. However we were planning on taking an extended international vacation later this year which feels risky without the green card (ie if a RFE came up while out of the country and without good access to all documentation, or even worse, a denial if there is administrative issue and needing to start process again from overseas).

Paperwork received by USCIS - February 12, 2016

EAD/AP Card Received - April 2016

Interview - June 6th 2016 in Chicago.

No update online since.

We are in a similar situation, though we haven't been waiting as long as you. We had our interview on July 18 and were verbally approved. The USCIS officer told us to expect a letter and the green card within 30 days, but we've heard nothing at all since the interview and our online status has been stuck on "My Biometrics Fee was Received" since 2/29. From reading other forums, some people have waited up to three months for their green card after the interview. Sometimes the officer gets behind on paperwork and forgets to actually enter the approval in the system to order the card, sometimes they need to get their approval reviewed by a supervisor, sometimes they're just incredibly slow for no discernible reason. I can't tell you precisely what that "application is still under review" response you got means (who knows why or how USCIS does anything), but it sounds like it's likely one of those reasons and not a problem with your application.

I also understand the anxiety around travelling while in limbo. We're nervous because we're set to travel to Colombia next week and have scheduled an InfoPass appointment for the day before our flight leaves. By all accounts that is your best chance at getting any real information, particularly if it's an issue like your officer just got behind on their cases and needs to put the approval in the system. Our hope is that our GC has been approved and we can get the I-551 green card passport stamp in order to travel, which at least gets around the issue of AP being invalid once residency is approved. However, if the conditional residency HASN'T been officially approved yet, AP is still valid. Fine, except that there's that risk GC gets approved while we're gone, as you mentioned, or some other issue comes up that could pose problems for coming back into the country with only AP.

TL;DR Schedule an InfoPass at the USCIS Chicago office to see what's going on. Not guaranteed to work, but recommended by others that have finally been approved only to spend more long weeks/months waiting.

Hey folks! I'd like to ask something for those of you who already had the interview.

Mine interview is on the 22th, and due to a coincidence I have a trip to my home country which was planned a long time before I get the interview date flying out on the 30th. So I know of course if approved I won't have my GC in hands on time to the trip... so my plan is to use the EAD/AP combo card. Do they keep the card at the interview, or you can have it back? Because if they keep it I don't know what to do...

Thanks

I'm on the same boat with you. Filed my case more than 6 months ago, called USCIS and spoke to a tire 2 person last Wednesday and was told that my case was still at MSC. He helped me to put a service request. I have also contacted my state senator and they got back to me last Thursday asked me and my spouse to sign a privacy release form and they'll make an inquiry for me. Honestly have no idea how long would it take. I'm just really frustrated that my case is still at MSC instead of local office.

Still no news! Ombudsman is really useless, they didn't even know my case stuck at FBI name check. FBI replied me to confirm that name check is still pending. Don't know how many years it will take.Senator office is useless too, replied me once and when I email them again and call them, they never reply.
