February 2016 AOS Filers

Just thought I would share my experience here as I continue to be shocked by the lack of accountability I've encountered at all stages of this process.

Word of the wise, DO NOT HAND OVER YOUR FOREIGN DRIVERS LICENCE TO THE DMV. I had read here a couple times that they have no right to it being a document issued by a foreign government but when I went to get my Florida drivers licence yesterday they told me I had to surrender it in order to get an 8 year Florida licence. I was weary, but fine, what could go wrong?

Today I received a message on Instagram from a stranger with a picture of my Canadians drivers licence saying he picked up my fully intact licence out of the garbage in a near by city. My husband and I had no idea if this was just a good samaritan trying to do the right thing by returning it, or if he's trying to exploit this some how. So we were cautious in what information we gave and asked if it could be sent to the address on the licence.

I feel dumb for believing that the DMV would actually take the time to destroy or at least invalidate a private document (that doesn't expire for another 8 months I might add) and I am fuming. It makes me wonder what else is tossed out so carelessly!

I dont know how it goes in your case but its a bit odd that they do that... :/

It should have never happened in the first place. I feel dumb, I should know better by now. I like to think it was an honest mistake and it somehow ended up in the trash accidentally but who knows-regardless, it's unacceptable. Video surveillance is being reviewed to figure it out.

The guy who has it has stopped responding to messages too so I don't know if I'm going to get it back and I'm a little bit worried about identity theft...

Out of curiosity, are there any February filers still waiting on their I-485 approval/ Interviews? I just got my EAD/AP card in the mail today and I'm waiting for my interview.

One of our senator contacted USCIS about I-765 and I-131. We also added our I-485 receipt number, maybe they'll work on that too.

I have been ready for a scheduled interview since April 4th, so I am just patiently waiting for it while trying to find work as well in the meantime with my EAD/AP

One of our senator contacted USCIS about I-765 and I-131. We also added our I-485 receipt number, maybe they'll work on that too.

Hi everyone, thanks for responding. Its good to know there are still a few of us out there working our way through this AOS journey. This thread has been so quiet, that I thought almost everyone was done with AOS. I wanna say good luck to everyone still waiting and wish everybody a speedy EAD/AP and AOS approval. How did you get an email from the Senator or get him involved in your case. I'm a feb filer too and I was on the phone with tier2 officer earlier today. They told me that my case is still with Missouri Service center and I will have to wait another 56 days before calling them back!

Check for a form or link on your Senator's website...google your state and look under the immigration section.

If you don't know who your Senators are, look them up on Google.

Then, they should have a form on their website to contact them ( Should be under contact us ). You fill it up and explain your issue. We wrote a bit of a book and Included my receipts number,

BE READY, they normally ask you to file an Information Release Form. You scan it and sent it back by email or FAX it. (Be careful, some Senators have a regular Information release form and one made specially for Immigration).

Once everything is in order they send an email saying they received it. (Depend on the senator, most do I think). Most of the time you will be in contact with their aides.

Senator Gillibrand sent an Email already, she had contacted USCIS concerning our problem. We contacted both our Senators and our Congresswoman. Just hoping they will be able to help us.

We are still waiting. Got EAD a week ago. Had an interview for I-485 scheduled then USCIS canceled it and haven't rescheduled since.
