Question for Canadian Filers that have recieved EAD/AP

I have found that while coming to the states that once you are approved of EAD you are eligible for EI in Canadatill you find work

I'm curious if the Canadian filers applied for EI and if so how did it go?

I applied to EI a within a week of entering the US (Nov/Dec) even though I knew I wouldn't be eligible without EAD I read it's a good idea so at least you're in the system. I'm glad I did because once I got my EAD (April) all they had to do was reopen my case after I faxed my SIN card and EAD. They then called me back within a week and asked me a few job searching questions and told me the interstate number to call to give my biweekly reports. There is a 2 week waiting period where you aren't eligible for EI (two weeks from the date your EAD is valid), but it is retroactive so by the time I made my first report the next week was the third week and as such I got a payment. A quarter of mine went to taxes though :S but overall it was a pretty easy process and the people at the interstate department are super helpful and nice. I got eligible for 19 weeks.

WOOHOO! Just randomly checked my mail and I got my AOS approval notice... says they'll mail me my new permanent resident card within the next 3 weeks. Like a lot of other people I had no status changes through the website or by text so this comes as a surprise. My AP has been approved with no approval notice mailed for the past month and I have had my EAD since early April. And I just got mailed some CANADIAN red rose tea! aww yeah!

Thanks! We are in NC now, but will be leaving the state soon. And I know it was really weird--we needed his social to get his permit but I think since we showed them the permit card, they didn't really care to see the SSN again. It's one of the required docs in NC, though.

Do you think that when you call the 800# and here the 'current' status on our cases that is accurate? Or should we call and speak with an actual person? My husband never received the actual NOA hard copies, just bio appt letter. So, no NOA hard copy for AP.
