Bringing my sister over.

In less than a year I will be eligible for US citizenship. I have a 16 year old sister back in Poland that would like to live here in the US. I was reading online that when sponsoring green cards for family members siblings will wait at least 12 years or more depending on the country of origin. Is that true? Specially the "at least" part. Is there no chance in the world its going to be less than 12 years? I tried to lookup more information on this and everywhere they just say it depends on the country but the examples they give is always China and India so I'm not sure what is it going to be if its Poland.

I realize that I can give immediate green card to my parents and they could in turn in 5 years give it to her but my parents are not all interested in moving and living in America so this will not work since they will never become US citizens.

I was also thinking that she could get into a US college but then when she is done with it and still won't have a green card we're back to square one.

Are there any other paths that I am missing here? What would you do here? She just turned 16. Is her age any help? Would she get a green card together with my parents if I apply for my parents?

Assume she would be circa 30, but husband/children could come as well.

Students look for jobs on graduation with companies that will sponsor a work visa.

she could come over on student visa NOW, go to a PRIVATE school, finishing high school, and get another student visa for COLLEGE, but

that's a hunk o money.

So really, this is a time vs money problem - how you solve it depends on you and your bank account.

Right now people from most countries who's sibling filed for a visa in June of 2003 are at a stage where they are getting interviews. IF the immigration laws stay unchanged then you will probably see much longer waits for people filing today. The more immigrants eligible to file for their siblings the longer the line will be and it may be 20 years or more for the people who file today to get to the front of the line. Changes in the law could make the wait smaller or eliminate that class of visa entirely.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.
