I hate to say it, but apparently you wasted precious time during your long wait for NOA2.

But do not panic now, plan a logical sequence of steps to meet all the requirements.

Get started with your police certificate, I do not know how easy or difficult is to get one in India, in Colombia you just go online and print one.

Study your AOS requirements, read carefully the instructions and be sure what type of I-864 version you need.

Stay focused, read, read, research, write down you questions and doubts.

Pay attention to detail.

Copies only for NVC, originals for interview.

No photos to NVC.

Mail AOS and IV packages together in a larger envelope.

Stay on top of your case calling NVC 2 weeks after NOA2 to obtain Case number and Invoice ID number.

Its so packed up right now ? Im sure i will have 1000 of questions after we start the online forms! Im always freaking out ? Now will be difficult to choose the form. Getting a police certificate specially in Mumbai is 2 Weeks. Register online on a website (Passport office/Website) and Schedule an appointment and submit your paperwork. Than Police inquires about your resident and than you get a text. My Wife got her PCC in 3 weeks because she had 4 address listed in last 5 years.

If you have hard time getting an appointment than go thru an agent. he will get it easier and pretty much for next week Monday or Tuesday.

I think any passport agent will be able to help with Police Clearance certificate.. Maybe you can start with Google first :-p

Do you mean from the time you send in your AOS and IV package? Only for EP countries.. It's almost a month to get case#. Mine was fast no issues took from

12/2 arrival at NVC

12/16 Case# assigned

1/4 Scan Date (I could have sent in a week earlier but waited- I sent from Nigeria FedEx).

2/9 CC

Most people that arrived at NVC same week as me had case complete in that first week of February. So Case Complete in 30 days after Scan date it's possible.

Ah, anyone have a sample for the letter to write to NVC for those who have reasons as to why they didn't file income taxes?

A simple statement stating "I was not required to file taxes for year XXXX because ________________________ ."

Like you were unemployed, You didn't make the required amount to file.

Thats' it.

I can cry right now sooo confused honestly. My husband just graduated he is looking for job so we need a joint sponsor and even if he gets a job im sure we need a joint sponsor for past tax returns like for 3years. Hopefully my dad in law has all tax return papers. Gosh this will be so tough ?

You said you are getting ready to leave to go to your husband. You need to get your AOS package together. YOu have to fill out the I-864 and you need to have your joint sponsor do the same.

Be sure to follow the list of documents you need and your joint sponsor needs to do the same. If you didn't file taxes for the last 3 years then you need to write a statement why you weren't required to file. Also your joint sponsor needs to have proof of US citizenship, LPR status or Naturalization proof in their package. All this you need to have ready and then you can have ready to send with the IV package when you get all the items for that.

Well the form for you will be easy I-864. Since you say you will need a joint sponsor you can;t use I-864ez. Look at it and go slow. The I-864 is the biggest checklist issue. Household size all that. Just take it slow come back here when you have questions. That's what we are here for,

Make sure in those years you didn't file on the I-864 for annual income put $0. If you put any amount they will expect and checklist you for a Tax return.

I'm the applicant and have never been divorced before but my husband, the petitioner, was married once before. Do I need to have a copy and/or original of his divorce decree when it's time for the interview? I'm ahead of time but it takes time to order a divorce decree.
