After reading a closely related post, it raised a question in my mind. One of the comments mentioned two sentences were fine.

My GF and I were introduced by our respective mutual friends. on Dec 21st, 2015, my friend gave me her phone number via Viber. I then contacted her via Viber and we established an on-line dialog leading to our first physical meeting on 3 January 2016.

Do I need to provide the details of the physical meeting here as well?

Is this all I need for 34.a? Do I need the one page detailed explanation. Without screenshots from Viber, the prose will be about the same.

Does USCIS care about the additional background explaining that she is a friend of a friend of a friend and proof from Viber? Even if how we met goes over the recommendation of no more than one type written page.

Have you guys only known each other for just over a month? USCIS may find it suspicious that you are engaged so quickly.

Not engaged yet - just thinking ahead.

We will meet every month. Maybe March.

As the advice I received, keep it as short as possible. They just want to know the specifics of how you met in person, not the whole story. Save that for the interview, where you have to establish that there is a bona fide relationship between you.

Our Timeline (click the button!):

06/12/15 - Met online and started talking
09/25/15 - She came to the US on holidays, decided to spend a weekend to meet me in Texas.
10/02/15 - I must have done something right, since she came back the next weekend too!

10/05/15 - Sadly, she had to return to China for work. We keep talking.
11/12/15 - I leave to visit her in Shanghai. A very beautiful city, if I do say so myself.

11/16/15 - My turn to leave for work. :(

12/10/15 - I-129F sent to USCIS lockbox.

12/16/15 - NOA1 email received.

12/21/15 - NOA1 hardcopy received.

01/21/16 - NOA2 email & text received. 36 days processing time!

01/25/16 - NOA2 hardcopy received.

02/03/16 - NVC received (date uncertain?)/GUZ # assigned

02/04/16 - Sent to Guangzhou embassy

02/07/16 - She's come to visit for CNY :dancing:

02/20/16 - Our holidays together are over *sigh*. Back to waiting...

03/11/16 - Packet 3 received.

03/13/16 - Packet 3 returned.

03/18/16 - Packet 4 received.

04/21/16 - Interview at GZ - Approved! :luv:

04/23/16 - I have to return to work...back to waiting for her visa to arrive.

Do I need to provide the details of the physical meeting here as well? Yes, you only need to describe one meeting in person, not how you first met. That is for the interview.

Is this all I need for 34.a? Do I need the one page detailed explanation. Yes but two sentences are all that is needed, not a novel. The size of the box on the form is indicative of the answer they expect.

Without screenshots from Viber, the prose will be about the same.

Does USCIS care about the additional background explaining that she is a friend of a friend of a friend and proof from Viber? Even if how we met goes over the recommendation of no more than one type written page.

Nope, they do not care, only that you met in person once. The relationship stuff is for the interview.

Have you guys only known each other for just over a month? USCIS may find it suspicious that you are engaged so quickly.

Wrong.....USCIS only wants to know when you met in person. Relationship stuff is for the interview.

Phil (Lockport, near Chicago) and Alla (Lobnya, near Moscow)

As of Dec 7, 2009, now Zero miles apart (literally)!
