I-864 Affidavit, how many years of taxes from Spouse needed? [merged threads]

My USC wife seems to think having read through that she only needs to provide one year of previous taxes, what have other people experienced and provided for their application? We have her sister acting as a joint sponsor who has provided us with 3 years back taxes as my wife will be returning home ahead of me so will be between jobs when we file. Any info would be much appreciated!

Last one year of tax returns is required; 3 years is optional. Also, the "total income" number from the last 3 years of tax returns is needed (just the number).

Hey Nick, Sorry I didn't explain our situation fully, My wife has been living with me in the UK and did not realise she needed to be filing taxes every year so I believe we must follow this part of the i-864 instructions now: "If you were required to file a Federal income tax return during any of the previous three tax years but did not do so, you must file all late returns with the IRS and attach an IRS-generated tax return transcript documenting your late filing before submitting Form I-864."

We will be filing them shortly ourselves but have never done them, it seems that filing 'married filing seperately' will be the quickest option as I don't have an SSN and can put NRA in that section as some other posts have advised, any info on which software or resources to use would be much appreciated.

Any advice on which software/resources are best for US expats filing previous and current years of taxes?? MY USC wife and I have never done this before and need to complete them ASAP so I can book my interview.

My USC wife hasn't filed for a number of years and we need to do her back taxes for the previous 3 years as stated here in the i-864 instructions:
