So my friend Anton has the computer and Sasha is our go to computer guy in Nikolaev.

Irina takes the bus up to Anton's and she, Anton, Sasha, Anton's GF Zhenya are having a great time and I join in via Skype.

It was a hoot.

Everything is going fine until it come time to print out the form for the fee.

Now I am a 30 year IT professional and I have managed to go the last 2+ years without Adobe Acrobat installed on any of the many computers I touch.

But there is a Ukrainian specific PDF required for the fee that only seems to work with Adobe. Indeed it says something to that effect in the instructions but I was able to get everything else opened and saved using my PDF editor. Not this form, And of course Anton did not have Adobe installed. Sasha actually figured it out on their end at the same time I figured out it here in USA.

My hope is they can finish the process and get an interview date for Fed 12 or 15. I can fly and be there for moral support over Valentine's weekend (this is the B2).

In expectations we will crash and burn on the B2 I took a look at the marvelous timeline search function here to look at K-1 rejection rates in Kiev.

http://www.visajourney.com/timeline/filterlist.php

For the most recent 100 K-1 for Ukraine submitted - almost 70 made it to the interview. There are some incomplete timelines.

I did not find any denied visa's at the interview stage. There are a couple of potentials, but the members are no longer on VJ.

I did find the thread where a K-1 was "rejected" because the petitioner was too ugly. (Girl did not show up)

I did not find a K-1 rejection in Kiev in my one hour search., I'm sure there are a few, but they seem to be few and far between.

Yes, the payment fee form is weird and only works in Adobe Acrobat. They're using some advanced features of PDFs for retrieving data from the web and security that only Adobe has implemented, thus it does not work in any other PDF viewer.

K1 in Ukraine is extremely easy and unless you have some really glaring obvious fraud, then you'll almost certainly be approved if you submit all the correct paperwork. When we went for our interview together, the consul even told me himself that Kyiv is a really easy going consulate for K1 visas. On the other hand, B2 is extremely hard to get in Ukraine and has a very high rejection rate. My mother in law got denied a B2 to come for our wedding (even though she has her own apartment and a steady job in Ukraine, though not that high paying).

vbtwo is right on the money, if you have have no red flags in your past and meet all the K1 qualifications, then the K1 through Kiev is pretty easy. Just have all your documentation in order and you will have no problems. I was there for the interview as well, it was nothing to be nervous about. The B2 on the other hand is a different animal from what I have heard.

mmm,

if the B2 is approved I was planning to start the K-1 after I meet her family during my long July trip.

(assuming everything goes well)

If disapproved, I was thinking about starting after my March trip.

Maybe I should go ahead after this trip. By the time we get to the K-1 interview we will have had admittedly short face to face meetings in Jan, Feb, Mar, Apr, May and the long July trip.

Her B2 interview is 12 Feb and then we will have the weekend.

Hijacking my own thread

It looks like all documents must be in transparent thin folders.

I'm thinking of these zip lock envelopes that expand to one inch.
