Hi! I and my wife together w/ my 3 children ages 16, 12, and 11 yrs of age, arrived here in the US last June 2015 with PRC. Now, my wife and I are thinking of sending our children back to our country to study(cheaper n faster) but would all be under Re entry permit, while we stay in the US to pursue for naturalization w/c we hopefully obtain in 5 yrs. Now my question is, would the children's absence affect their naturalization? If husband and I get naturalized in 5 yrs, wouldn't it be the same for my 2 children who will then be 16 and 17 yrs old, even if they're outside the US with re-entry status? My eldest, I presume, would have to apply himself since he will be 21 yrs of age by then.

Thank you in advance.

School in the US is free. Why will it be cheaper and faster for them in the PI?

A US education is better than a PI education for living and working in the US.

You are making a big mistake that I have seen in many families who send kids back home. Better to keep your kids with you where you can watch them.

Your children do not naturalize. They would get derivative citizenship when a parent naturalizes and they meet the following four requirements;

1. Be under age 18, 2) Be an LPR, 3) Have a US citizen parent, and 4) live with that parent.

You should think long and hard about how well your children would be prepared to function in the US.

Perhaps there is something else going on the OP does not want to share?

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

My eldest is in college now so education here is no longer free and is, in fact, way too expensive than that of the Philippines. My second child is really close to his older brother that he doesn't want to be apart fr him. I know my eldest would have to apply for citizenship when he reach 18 yrs of age. But for my 2 children who are minors, wouldn't their separation from us and absence in the US under reentry status affect the derivative citizenship they're supposed to get through parents? Thanks again!

They have to meet all four requirements. See requirement # 4.

As I see it, there may be 2 sides of this story. The one the USCIS writes about children accompanying a parent to the USA. And, his story of wanting to use the child's derivative citizenship when mom's gets her citizenship in 5 years whether they are in the USA or not. Good question you might want to seek expert advice for. Contact the USCIS or your congressman, they are free. Good luck!

What has the second sentence to do with the first?

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”
