Hi Everyone,

I'm looking ahead at the moving process to bring my personal belongings (about 10 boxes) via UHaul truck (that I will drive) over the border after my K1 is approved. My questions are regarding itemizing my belongings:

1) I know that I need to fill out the CPB form 3299 but is this where I list ALL of my belongings I am bringing over? Or only the ones where I received them in the USA (looking at column 4) and have already paid duty on?

2) How specific does this form need to be if I list all of my belongings on it ie. can I say "misc. kitchen utensils" with the amount instead of 1 serving spoon, 4 measuring cups, etc.?

3) Am I able to continue the CPB form 3299 page on another if there isn't room, but also to itemize based on the boxes that I have separately?

4) Lastly, how do I list personal memorabilia (some photos, awards, etc.) or paperwork, including the value?

I'm wondering if anyone has an example that they wouldn't mind posting as I am having trouble understanding how to do all this :S.

Many thanks

So I don't have direct experience as I am only doing PoE next week...but here is what I have found (and I am doing CR-1 but from what I have seen it is similar).

The form you mentioned is only for unaccompanied goods. So good that you would be shipping and not physically crossing with.

Since you are actually crossing with the goods, you don't need that form.

What you do need is a manifest of what you are bringing with you. It doesn't need to list every single item individually. So you need to have like:

Box1: Books, CDs

Box 2: Clothes

Box 3: Cookware

etc.

And make sure you have this with you printed out with a copy for them if they ask for it.

For the personal stuff, it is the same thing, just list it as photos or whatever is in the box. Photos, documents...

So yeah don't need that form unless you are shipping and I totally misread your post...

Hope that helped.

Ok thanks for the information. If I make my own itemized list then, I am still supposed to put the value (approx.) so what should I put down for the personal effects?

Thanks.

I will have my POE in March and I called the CBP office where I will be crossing and asked about what is needed and the officer told me just to have a list of what I have (like suggested above)

Also the officer said that if I have any items they may want to inspect (firearms, food, house plants, tobacco, etc) then I should have them in an accessible part of the truck to make it easier for them. They guy said that they don't really care about other stuff, so if you have items like that make sure you know where they are so it's easier. I figure if it's easier for them, the faster I get through the border and the sooner I can continue my long drive into the USA.

If you have any questions I highly recommend calling your intended POE and asking the CBP officer you questions, since they are the people who do this they will know the answers.

I only had a general itemized list like brentos suggested when I crossed. In total I think I had 145 boxes along with listing all the larger items like furniture. I didn't write anything to do with value either. I was processed without any problem and they didn't look through anything, but I think that was an anomaly.

To be honest, if you read a lot of poe reviews for land, most people aren't looked at. We weren't either. Didn't even ask to see the manifest or open the uhaul. They didn't even care that we had a couple apples.
