asset + visit question for spouse

1) i already submitted the petition 1-30 for my spouse ( she lives in canada ) . it has just been a month . unfortunately i lost my job and have been unemployed for 2 months now . my question is how much asset would i need to show later to USCIS ? ( roughly i have 30k in my bank account at this moment )

2) my wife would like to visit me but this time she would like to stay here for two months . can she stay in the US for 2 months while the petition is in progress ?

Answers:

1. It won't be USCIS who will be making the decision on the I-864, it will be a CO at the Embassy or Consulate abroad. To qualify using assets, the value of the assets must be greater than or equal to 3 times the difference between what you are able to have and the qualifying threshold for your household size. To qualify using assets alone for a household size of 2, they would have to have total value close to 60k.
2. Her authorized length of stay is determined at entry by CBP.

but the poverty guidline states that the minimum income requirement for household size 2 is around $20000

3 times that is 60k

so the income should be 60k per annum for my job or do i need to show bank balance of 60 k ?

If you were going with current salary, your salary needs to be just under $20,000. Since you're unemployed, you don't have a current salary and then you need to have either a minimum of $60,000 in assets or find a joint sponsor for the i-864. Assets are e.g. cash in a bank account, stock portfolio etc.

When using assets, you need to show proof of having owned the assets for at least six months but preferably longer. You can use assets both in your name and in your foreign spouse's name. However, not all embassies accept assets so check in the specific forum for India, if anyone there has gone with assets and what their experience was.
