It obviously depends on the job.... Or if there is a job....

I'm 25 now. After leaving University i worked two jobs for two and a half years (both pretty much minimum wage, which in the UK is around $10/hr), saved a fair amount of money, quit both jobs and went travelling. So unfortunately it wasn't a paid holiday. Though i got around 4 weeks a year, which i think is pretty good by american standards?

It is very good by American standards and something that will be hard to adjust from if you plan to emigrate at some point. I recently saw a job advertised doing the same as I do here in the UK but in my husband's home town and it proudly announced that the lucky applicant would have 7 days annual leave per year.

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

Interview: December 6, 2016 London

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

Interview: March 22, 2021 Seattle

Oath: March 22, 2021 COVID-style same-day oath

Now a US citizen!

the UK certainly offers an incredible vacation scheme....months and months of paid holiday? Wow. How many Brits have a holiday scheme like that?

I wish I could get 6 months off paid holiday too!

Vacation time, or PTO as many places are calling it now is largely in part to the company you work for. I Personally have not worked for a single company that has given less than 3 weeks. Currently I get 5 weeks of vacation each year, and 1 year from now I will earn 7 weeks of vacation.

Typically here in the US the larger the company the less vacation time you get. For example Walmart starts FTE's at 2 weeks, 7 years later you get 3 weeks, and after you have devoted a decade to them, you get 4 weeks.

Most smaller companies with benefits packages are usually better with Vacation accruals for employees.

Your name makes me hungry.

Back in England I got 6 weeks paid leave a year. Over here hubby has to take a month of per diem leave once a year, unpaid but the wages are more than enough to cover 4 weeks off.

~Going to get some jam toast and a cuppa.
