hi

2 years

the 6 months or more is only for the approval of the first form, the i130, then it is sent to NVC where it will be stored until immigration contacts the petitioner

Conservatively two years...From the time I applied for my wife in Jan 21, 2014 to my wife got her interview on Sep 2, 2015 and arrived in USA on Sep 18, 2015, it was 20 months. So you are looking at anywhere from 1.5 to 2 years.

It depends on your luck essentially.

Steps in your Visa process:

Step 1: I-130: Approval post submission can take anywhere from 21 days to 1yr.

Step 2: Post I-130, time it takes to go to NVC : Can take anywhere between 30 days to 2 months.

Step3: NVC case number+Processing after you send the docs: Can take anywhere from 2 months to how fast you send in your application.

Step 4 (Interview letter based on Dreaded Visa bulletin): Even if Steps 1-3 have been done really fast then based on how your stars line up and how Charles Oppenheim calculates Visa bulletin, wait for your PD to be current can take anywhere from 1 to 2yrs.

So worst case: 2-2.5yrs.

In our case.

Step 1: Approval in 19 days

Step 2: Went to NVC in 15 days.

Step 3: NVC processing was 30 days.

Step4: PD was current for 2 months straight so got the Interview letter soon.

Total time taken from I-130 application to Port of Entry in U.S for my wife under F2A: 6 months.

Unless you are very lucky, its a long wait for F2A. How far are you from filing for Citizenship? If you can bring her under IR/CR category (which is basically where spouse is U.S Citizen) then there is no Visa bulletin issue on Step 4 as spouse of U.S citizen is an immediate relative where as spouse of LPR isn't. (Sounds dumb but that's how it works)
