Traveling to another country while waiting for waiver

I'm not sure whether to post this here or in the traveling section, (so move it if necessary).

I am currently waiting on a waiver from July 6th that is a CIMT (non-agressive) waiver. From my understanding some of these have taken much longer and it has been just about a year since I have seen my fiance. The problem is, he is from Canada and I can not go to Canada due to an old DUI (I could apply for a TRP but those also can take 4-6 months for approval). We wanted to be able to take a vacation together to be able to see each other and go to Mexico (where we both will be allowed no problem).

However, I am concerned about if he leaves Canada at all, it may effect his waiver since it will show on his passport we has been to Mexico. I don't want to prolong this any further or cause any holdups by going but I really hate thinking of having to wait another 6 plus months to possibly see him again.

Should leaving Canada and going to Mexico be fine? Does anyone have similar situations of vacationing in another country while waiting for approval?

If he his legally able to travel and leave the country why would affect his waiver? Does his CIMT prohibit him from traveling and vacationing? As long as he goes back to Canada after the trip I'm not seeing how this would cause a problem.

I don't know, call it paranoia...after this wait and all this stress I'm scared breathing wrong will prolong it lol. I have just came so far, I just want to double check. He can legally leave the country, and his charges are all old so I was thinking the same thing that it wouldn't be an issue as long as he isn't touching down in the US and flying straight back home. Of course though, one person had to say something and said that you aren't allowed to leave your country while waiting for a waiver and got me all paranoid over here lol

Thank you! It's soooo needed. This is all so stressful especially without being able to see my fiance for so long! At least a little vacation and seeing each other will make however much longer we have to wait not quite as bad.
