The interview went great, I was out in about 15 minutes. We started with the promise to tell the truth (I raised my right hand and sworn to tell the truth during the interview), then the officer asked me for some documents (GC, DL, Passport); After that the officer reviewed my N-400 application, and asked me questions from the application (if i had any convictions and such); then he asked me if I had any changes in my life circumstances since filing form N-400 (If I am still married). I signed like 4 papers through out the entire process. After that he asked me to read a sentence, write down a sentence, and then started asking me the oral test questions:

1- What group of people was taken to America and sold as slaves?

2- Why did the colonists fight the British?

3- Who wrote the Declaration of Independence?

4- When was the Declaration of Independence adopted?

5- What is the highest court in the United States?

6- What is the name of the Vice President of the United States now?

He then told me that I will be receiving a letter by mail regarding the date and place of the Oath Ceremony :)

Congratulations.

In your interview appointment letter, what documents did they ask you to bring to the interview?

Did they also add the form 659-N checklist to your interview letter?

My wife asked me to type this out so here we go. Her interview was scheduled for 9am. We were 15 minutes early. While we were waiting a few people came out of their interview with big smiles. Good sign. At 9:02 the IO came out and called for her by last name only. He looked really cranky... Not a good sign..

She walked back to an office with a little desk and he had her swear to tell the truth. He then asked for her driver’s license, green card and her passport. He took the port of entry stamp and put it in her file. The IO didn’t ask for any other paperwork. They then went through the N-400 form from front to back. They did skip over the info about my previous marriage. He then asked for her Social Security Number. He did not ask to see the card.

He then said “It is time for the 100 civic questions. I will ask you a total of 10 questions. You can miss 4.” Here are the questions he asked.

1. How many members are in the House of Representatives?

2. Name one war that was fought by the US in the 1900’s.

3. Who is the father of our country?

4. Who is the Chief Justice of the US?

5. How many years is the President elected for?

6. How many years are members of the House elected for?

He did not ask 10. J

“Now it is time for the English portion of the test.”

He had her read a sentence that happened to be one of the 100 questions. Who is George Washington? He then told her to write “We vote for the president in November.” Then the IO said Congratulations. You have passed the test.” He then printed the Notice of Naturalization Oath Ceremony and handed it to her. The date and time on the notice is 5/12/16 at 9:45am. She then thanked him and he kind of smiled. That was the first time he smiled.

At 9:18 my wife came out. I knew right away she passes because she was smiling from ear to ear. I think at first she was trying to hide it but couldn’t. J

I'd wouldn't worry yet but I wouldn't let this week pass without calling either. I don't know about your local office but most interviews tend to be 4-5 weeks after being scheduled and you are almost 2 weeks in. I

Hi guys,

I have been following this forum for a while and I figured I will share my timeline and interview experience.

C-Date.|Sent.|Cashd|NOA..|Fprints.|In Line.|Int ltr.|Intrview|Oath....|Field Office

04/16 02/04 02/08 02/10 03/04 03/15 03/25 04/30 Newark

I had my interview yesterday and the IO was friendly and yet very serious and professional. She started while walking me to her office to take the oath that the good news is its my turn but the bad news is I will not be a citizen that day lol. So obviously I was very disappointed to asked her why. She said that they need to run a Name check on the name displayed on my birth certificate which has a middle name in it. I explained to her that I never used a middle name nor did my GC and any of my passports have it she did not care. We went to her office and she went through my application and she said everything is fine I dont have any issues with my application nor background check she even showed me the FP and Name check background results and the both had no record. she told me she would have approved me on the spot if I did not have a different name on my birth certificate which btw I had sent them back in 2013 for I485. She made sign 3 papers with a name change request to drop my middle name which I signed and I also signed the pictures that I had originally sent with my application. She told me that the name check could take a week or a year so I left her office extremely disjointed. my online status have not changed yet and still display interview scheduled.

Did anyone of you guys had a similar situation with a Decision cannot be made yet pending a name check? I would appreciate any inputs and your help. I am just really hoping the new name check comes back quickly...

Thank you

Hi, I have not had an experience like yours but I am sure that from what I have heard, if it is a name heck it really does not take very long at all. I think it should take a matter of days.

I am sure you will be very fine so cheer up and see the positive side that you are almost done.

By the way, what sort of information did the application,fp and name check background results contain.

I am just curious to know what sort of background and eligibility check they carry out.

Thank you for the kind words I appreciate it. I have no idea what they are looking for she just showed my a paper with 2 lines one for the FP check and the other for name check below each line it says "no records"

You are most welcome .

In your interview letter, what items did they ask you to bring to the interview and did the IO ask to see those items?

Also did you file under 3 years (marriage) or 5 years?

The n400 application asks you to list all names you have ever used. "Used" here means names you have been known as and includes nicknames or names on official documents.

So your name on your birth certificate should have been included somewhere on the form (either as your current legal name or as one of the other names you have used). The USCIS name check done after biometrics includes all names on the application.

If you leave names off the application, they have to do the name check after the interview.

It shouldn't take too long unless the missing name returns a match that needs to be investigated further.

Yes that was my mistake since I didn't even think about my birth certificate nor did I provided it with my N400 application. After she showed me my birth certificate I then remembered sending that document as part of my i485 package. I felt stupid not mentioning the name displayed on my birth certificate even though I've never used it before. Do you know how long another name change takes to process on average? I guess it's case by case and so far I've been lucky and never got stuck in any name check.

Wow! only tow items.

Did you already submit your tax returns/ transcripts with your application and that is why she did not ask for it?
