I am not finding much information about the sentence part of the interview. I have seen questions like "When is Columbus Day?" I asked my husband this and he had to look at a calendar lol so for that question would "I am not sure when Columbus Day is" work? Is there a list somewhere of possible questions the sentence may be?

Thanks

Hey Tim & Cai - Check out the USCIS's site of study materials for the civics test: https://www.uscis.gov/citizenship/learners/study-test/study-materials-civics-test - they have a list of all the possible 100 questions and the correct answers, as well as flash cards, practice tests, et cetera.

Thanks for your reply. I have all of those memorized. It is the sentence portion I'm not finding information on. I read and write okay, I am just concerned about questions I can;t study for.

What sentence part? They ask you to basically read, write and speak things off your application, and then the rest of it is the civics questions. I'm not sure what you're worrying about here.

Ah, I see - as far as I understand it, the sentence portion consists of you writing a sentence that the IO dictates; it's more a test that you can understand spoken English and are able to write it down in a proper sentence. They seem to be more statements (like 'Columbus Day is in October'), not questions that you have to answer in sentence form. There are a couple practice sites like http://passcitizenshipexam.com/writingTest1/index.html and http://www.citizenshipstudyguide.com/member/citizenship-test-civics-writing-exercises.php. There is some discussion with sample sentences here http://forums.immigration.com/threads/new-naturalization-test-sample-sentences-lets-collect.277299 (a few years old, but gives a general sense of what to expect). Judging by your writing in this forum, I think you'll be more than fine!

Others in here may know more. From what I remember reading it may be a moral dilemma. I don't think it is a disqualifying one though. Since I am female I didn't pay too close attention, It's too bad your not under 26 and you could go sign up tomorrow.

Hey Suerocky - Looks like a couple options here: First, USCIS may have automatically registered you anyway as part of the Green Card process if you were under 26 when you got the Green Card. Call Selective Service at 1-888-655-1825 or 847.688.6888 to ask if 1) you are registered, or 2) for a Status Information Letter that you will need to provide to USCIS if you did not register.

If you did not register and aren't in a hurry, you can wait 3 years until you're 29 (if you're filing the N-400 based on marriage to a US citizen) or five years until you're 31 (if filing otherwise), at which point USCIS stops asking about Selective Service beacuse they only look back 3 or 5 years respectively.

If you did not register and don't want to wait, then you need to prove to USCIS that 1) you are of good moral character and 2) that you didn't know that you were supposed to register (the legal stuff is here: http://shusterman.com/naturalizationselectiveservice.html).It seems like the advice out there suggests including your application a sworn declaration from you saying that you didn't know about the requirement or the reason that you thought it didn't apply to you, along with sworn declarations from people in authority (teachers, et cetera) who know you saying what a great person you are and supporting that you did not know of the requirement. This may be tricky because I think Green Card awardees after 2001 were alerted to the requirement by USCIS when they were given the Green Card, but it's your best bet if you're in a hurry.

Hopefully, you're already registered, but good luck either way!

You probably meant to say "Naturalization" application not the green card since she already has one! Good luck to you!

 yes that is certainly what I meant.
