Hello i have tried too look for some information on this process i have and see if it will work

so i know most people advise to get the SSN asap first...

but can i go get courthouse married first (and get marriage license)

and then go apply for SSN after ( but with k1 visa name and not the married name )

will this pose an issue?

i know most people run into is if they apply for a new ssn with married name but it doesn't match.

but if i apply w/ maiden name will that be ok?

must apply using visa name, this name will match up with the name stored in the SAVE db, SSA clerk always does a SAVE db lookup when presented with a K-1 visa and I-94.

I suggest not talking about the marriage, as most SSA clerks don't have the training to do anything properly - they might even turn you away if they hear about a marriage.

We have a SSN sub-forum here - have you seen it ?

i didn't see a SSN sub form.....

yea i don't plan on telling them about marriage....

i only plan on get marry first.... then apply SSN with k1 visa name......(not telling them we are married)

and then maybe 1-2 months later get name change back to married name....

Yes, if your state has a waiting period for the marriage to be officiated, then you can apply for the marriage license, then go to SSA office and get SSN application submitted. You aren't officially married when you apply for the marriage license, so you shouldn't have SSA officer problems. (I agree with the not mentioning marriage application during the SSA visit.)

They are exclusive events. Why not apply for SSN immediately upon arrival in US? Yes the names should match.

nope, sorry, it's outdated info.

K-1 visa holders get instant save db records at POE event,

so can go next day after POE and be found in the SAVE db.

My how-to on SSNs is outdated, on post #1, but covers it on the 3rd or 4th page.

Yes, I would go down to the SSA as soon as you can after arrival so you will have the card once you get married. This helps when trying to set up bank accounts and many states require it to get a driver's license or state ID. You can change the name once you get either the EAD/AP or green cards. Here I would suggest waiting for the GC to change the name since then you will get a SSC in your new name as well as have the DHS authorization removed.

Here is the link to the SS sub-forum.

Well my question is about splitting up the given name into (first and middle) and not only first

i say - get it done by the name in the passport bio page, k-1 visa foil stamp and the I-94.

Then at the ssa office, ask the clerk what is shown in the SAVE db.

your exact 'want' depends on humans touching computers plus whats stored in the computers - I hope a match is made the way you want it !

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
