Husband and I have been wondering whether the DMV requires applicants for a learner's permit to have insurance prior to applying?

I'm on H's insurance as a non-driver. We live in Texas. I've been trying to get in touch with a human at our local DMV for months now but I still haven't gotten an answer. I know there are humans there, just don't know how to get in touch with them through their phone numbers.

I guess we could all just go there and ask personally but our toddler has been kinda wonky with regards to her sleep schedule and it never really jives with H's work schedule.

Insights appreciated.

Husband and I have been wondering whether the DMV requires applicants for a learner's permit to have insurance prior to applying? No. Insurance companies do not cover any specific person as an unlicensed driver. While you may have unlicensed drivers coverage, you can not get driver's insurance for someone who is not a licensed driver.

I'm on H's insurance as a non-driver. We live in Texas. I've been trying to get in touch with a human at our local DMV for months now but I still haven't gotten an answer. I know there are humans there, just don't know how to get in touch with them through their phone numbers. Go to the local DMV. If you can't get them on the phone, then go there in person.

Your husbands insurance should cover family not specifically listed on the policy.

Currently my wife is driving around with her learners under my supervision under my policy. Once she gets her full license then I will add her as a named driver on my policy.

perhaps i need to be clear ?

to be issued a learner's permit, not need any car insurance.

to drive a car whilst utilising the learner's permit, the car owner must have insurance in place that covers the 'learner'.

Make sense? Yes? No ? If yes, please make me a sammich !
