[Emergency] Pregnant US Citizen Fiancé Lost Job As Financial Support Forms Are Due

Hi Guys,

My K1 visa was approved and now I'm due to send some documents to London. However, in a nightmare scenario she has now lost her job just as we are requested to send in the letter of support.

I have $25,000 in savings however, she needs to fill in the forms for herself and she basically has nothing.

My question is how long can I stall signing this until she gets a job?

Many thanks.

As mentioned above, your fiancee needs a joint sponsor, it can be anyone.

Why not self sponsor?

Your K1 petition (not visa) was approved. You can stall for months by not going to your medical or sending the Readiness for Interview form. London will not give you an interview without those.

And it's not a "letter" of support. It's form I-134 she fills out. London may approve you self-sponsoring with $25,000. In that case there will be no I-134 from your fiance. Just take proof of your savings to the interview.

Many thanks for all your prompt replies.

She'll need to find a co-sponsor. Then you can send in your forms.

As mentioned above, your fiancee needs a joint sponsor, it can be anyone.

How would this work? Does the joint sponsor just fill in the I-134?

Why not self sponsor?

Would I just fill in the I-134?

Ok thanks. It's good to know we have some time. Is there a cut off point where it's been too long? I imagine after a while they'll start to wonder what's going on.

I filled in the I 134 but it was not asked for.

To use a joint sponsor, both the petitioner AND the joint sponsor both fill out 134 forms and include as many accompanying documents as available. The reason for the pettioner to fill out a form is to kind of provide the proof that they need the co sponsor.

To sponsor yourself in the UK, go to the Embassy website or regional forum.

If you have another sponsor, they do the I-134 instead. This is a London thing and not necessarily true for other consulates.

No, if you self sponsor there is no need for an I -134. Show proof you have cash money.

When London gets your file, they send you a letter of instructions. It will also say if your I-129F petition has expired, just bring a new letter of intent from your US Fiance saying she is still free to marry and willing to marry you within 90 days of your entry on K1. I would start the visa part of things by submitting the DS-160 before your petition expires so they know you are still in the game.

BUT you have $25,000 which is most likely enough to self sponsor. There is no published amount and it has nothing to do with the poverty level. It's a judgement call by the officer. Try it. If he says no, then go to one of the other plans. They will hold your application until you send a sponsor back to them.

Not in London. One I-134 from the one with the job will do it.

I filled in the I 134 but it was not asked for.

How do you 'self-sponsor' out of curiosity...seems a perfect solution to put my anxieties to bed :P

Show that you have enough money to last 90 days.

Thanks Boiler....I do have more than enough...just concerned as my finace did not make the poverty line line year since he is semi-retired. I lined up a cosponsor just in case but I guess the anxieties of this K 1 process can make you a wee bit crazy.

You will need the 864 eventually, current income is what counts.

You should check if Montreal allows it. This is a London forum.
