Hello,

Our 22 y.o.son, who has a 2 year GC, with ROC coming up later this year, wishes to travel to China for Spring Festival and visit family and friends. First trip since arrival in Nov 2013.

Every topic I read here says anything under 6 months is no problem. But my wife goes on QQ chat rooms where the Chinese women are saying that the 6 month limit has now been changed to 3 months. So now she's worried that he will have a problem returning to the US.

Should he apply for a Re-entry permit, or would that be overkill?

That honestly sounds like something my wife would say. I am not downing it at all, it's just very common to hear that answer from some people when they get in a bad situation. They would rather hear and believe what someone says about immigration issues with no truth to back it up. At least here we have proof to back up what we say and post.

It is still 6 months and it has not changed at all.

QQ is a communication service, much like Skype. I guess there are chat rooms, or areas of QQ which you can post comments and read others' posts. There is quite a discussion going on, about many things, in China and outside China. Examples are the road rage incident here recently in which a Chinese student was killed, and the fires that happened in the chemical plant near Shanghai
