Hi guys, as the title says, should I inform them a head of time or wait until they ask me about my current status? Will they just check my SSN regarding the validity of my status here?

Thanks!

. . . They (employers) do not re-verify employment status of permanent residents.

I don't believe this.

Sure, a small employer with no experience may do no checking.

But large employers have the experience to enter the expiration date of the first 2 year green card into their data base.

When that date comes near . . . they will certainly look to employee for further authorization.

Same will happen when the one year extension date comes near.

Must I reverify an employee who presented for Form I-9 a Permanent Resident Card that expires in two years and contains conditions?

No, you should not reverify this employee. For more information, refer to the M-274 Part 2, Reverification and Evidence of Status for Certain Categories.

As I know, time frame for ROC is usually between 6 and 8 months. Maybe 10% of all cases wait longer than that... But if that happens, you must have I-551 stamp in your passport to extend your legal status until you receive your new green card.

My ROC was approved in 7 months :joy:

If the ROC takes more than 1 year and letter of extension already expired, make an infopass appointment to get the temporary I-551 stamp on your passport.

http://www.uscis.gov/mye-verify/self-check

From the self-check website, there is option to select document type - I-551 permanent resident green card (where you need to key in Alien number and Card number) or

Unexpired Foreign Passport with I-551 stamp or Temporary I-551 printed notation on a MRIV

Perhaps those who have encountered this issue where letter of extension have expired could chip in. :)

Done with K1, AOS and ROC

But our discussion was whether or not an employer would do some checking when 2

year green card expired and when one year extension expired.

You indicated no checking would be done.

The post I showed indicated there would be checking.

I don't understand your reference to a 'regular' green card.

What is an 'irregular' green card?

Your quote talks about a person who presents an expired green card along with an extension letter for the purposes of the I-9. The other type of "temporary green card" mentioned in that manual is an I-551 stamp. The OP used none of these forms of temporary I-551 for the I-9. The OP's (2-year) green card is still current unexpired, and he already did I-9 using that unexpired green card.
