Hello, I am new to this forum so please accept my apologizes if these questions have been asked. I have spent hours on here and learned so much but all of this reading has led to a few questions. I did read the FAQ and some of the answers looked to be a few years old so I wasn’t sure if things had changed.

We received our electronic notification last week that our visa was approved but am still waiting on the official notification in the mail which tells un the next steps but I think from this page I have figured a lot of this out!

My questions:

1. Once I enter the US and activate my Visa can we get married right away or do we need to wait at all – I see it says to wait 10 days to apply for SSN wasn’t sure if there was a wait also to get married.

2. I also see that once the Visa is activated I cannot come back to Canada until we have completed our AOS – is this the case? I did read something about being able to apply for an advance parole to allow you to cross but wasn’t sure if this was for one trip or if it could be used for multiple trips.

Thank you in advance for your help and thank you for this page – it has helped so much since I found it on Friday!!

Thank you Aaron. Just so I am clear, my mind never stops and I am a bit of an over thinker :), the AP takes 90 days or the AOS takes 90 days? Thanks again!

Hi Amy,

The AP is usually quick and you can use it to go back and forth as many times as you like. That being said, you will have to go into secondary to get paroled back in. They will take your fingerprints and picture and then you should be out of there. I would also advise carrying your notification with you that your AOS application is pending. You probably won't need this but it is always good to have.

I just noticed that your office is Buffalo. Are you in Buffalo or outside of there? I live in Medina which is about 49 mins east of Buffalo and close to Lake Ontario.

The Buffalo field office is pretty relaxed and the girl that does the biometrics there is very nice. They are super quick too. I was in and out today in 5 minutes as I was having my biometrics done for Naturalization.

Good luck and if you have any questions, feel free to send me a pm.

Cheers

Moe
