I am Canadian.

Why go on the trip? Because it was literally the only week in the upcoming years when we could. Keep in mind that I thought that we had been cleared for the trip; I had mentioned the trip as my basis for parole, and when I called USCIS, I had been told that the interview would be scheduled. I took whatever precautions I could, and acted accordingly.

Unemployed academic.

This was his only free week for years.

lol right!

I got my interview letter today, wahoo! and it said it can be reschedule under certain emergency circumstances but it will require additional information and delay the process.. i just don't understand why people would risk that! I am sorry, but i haven't planned any trips until i received the interview notice, and i am for sure not planning any trip out of the country until i have my GC in hand... my husband and i would both love to go on a vacation out of the country, but it can wait a few months more:)

I never understand why people are in such a panic to get their K1 and come here, and then the minute they file paperwork they are already preparing a trip out of the country.

anyways, I am sure you will be ok, just fill out the paperwork, give your plane tickets and just let them know you went on a vacation that was pre scheduled... it just seems like such a nuisance and an added headache to me:/

Why worry what any of us think?? Nobody (unless I missed a response) here has had your experience.. I can say without a doubt however that you are not the first person to miss an AOS meeting..

I think I would tell them that I thought we had petitioned for a change of date and had gone abroad under that assumption.. mea culpa and how can I make it right??

I personally understand as the whole K-1 thing is to be together.. period for me.. I don't want to stay here every moment and travel abroad is what feeds my soul. I plan on filing for advance parole asap upon AOS etc.

So? It was not literally the only week you could have gone, you are unemployed and it seems to me you have have every week from now until forever to go on a honeymoon. Bottom line you should have postponed your honeymoon, it wouldn't have killed you to wait a few months or even a year. This is the government you are dealing with and to put your entire case in jeopardy was just plain foolish. If you were not clear with the answer given from USCIS it was your responsibility to clarify it. USCIS could care less if you were dumb enough to get non refundable tickets, it was your choice to do so and therefore not a financial hardship. If you had done your research just a little further you would have found out that postponing the interview was a no no. Trying to place the blame on them is ridiculous, and what is even more ridiculous is that you are trying to say that it was a business trip, a trip that you took your husband on.Why on Earth would you even consider postponing the interview? Why would you take that chance? Not to sound cliche', but you made you bed now you must lie in it. As you can see no one has any sympathy for you. The most important part of the process and you blew it off so you could party with hubby for a week...

My parter and I filed for AOS back in June, and booked our honeymoon for January. Unfortunately, our interview was scheduled during our trip and I called the USCIS office to reschedule an appointment as soon as we received our notice. There were just over two weeks between the receipt of notice and the date of departure, and the tickets were non-refundable. I thought we would receive a new rescheduled date but instead we received a request for a written explanation as to why we missed our original interview date. The honeymoon was also in my field site (I'm an anthropologist), if that matters.

I swear, in that interview notice,

there should have been instructions on rescheduling,

which contained a blurb about postal mail, back to address in the letter.

Still , if you haven't done anything yet,

get to the dropbox at your local USCIS office (no appointment required) and put a letter in there requesting a later date, citing the biodata, all numbers (receipts) and the reason for the reschedule.

IMO, it's faster this way, to get the reschedule request IN.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
