interview in english or thai?

Will they give an interview in Thai? My fiance is not proficient in English, she can understand most words but if they talk too fast she can not, will this be a problem?

My understanding is that she can interview in thai. But if she does not speak english well, they might want to know how you two communicate, i.e. want to know if you speak thai.

My fiancee's english is not bad, but I am worried about a misunderstanding if she does not understand something or her english not being good enough to explain something that might be too difficult for her level. She will interview in english, but if things get tough, she will answer in thai. If feel this is a tradeoff between showing english proficiency and answering questions completely and truthfully.

Oh, and please share how your interview went, I am two days behind you.

NVC's website gives great information, including embassy specific information. Have a look at below link and find your embassy in the drop down menu on that website, the letter should tell you what language the interview can be held in.

As my experience the consular officer didn't let me choose interview language. We communicated in English the whole interview. But my 6 times experience at US embassy. I can say most of the officer can speak and understand Thai. If your fiance have a problem communicate with them, they will try to help you by explain words it in Thai. The visa interview questions for Bangkok US embassy is not so random. I feel like they do have pattern. So your fiance should do some research and practice beforehand.

My wife's interview in September 2012 was initiated and conducted in Thai. Only issue for her was converting my birthate to Thai calendar.

This process has been the most agonizing 6 months of my life, I am ready for this journey to come to a close and begin the next. We have been practicing and I'm hopeful she will get the green light to come to the states a week from tomorrow, I already have my ticket there and her ticket here booked for next month.

Same with our interview August of 2012. There was a young male who did the interview, just started right off in Thai which surprised my wife. She has her citizenship interview in 2 weeks so her English is quite good now!
