I'm doing all the leg work to apply for an Immigrant Visa for 9 year old step-daughter and need help with a slight snag.

I'm currently in the military, living in Japan, and getting ready to retire. As of right now we have not decided where we'll retire to but in Block 18 of the I-130 it asks for the address in the United States where the relative intends to live. I have no idea what to put there.

Suggestions? Please help.

Is it possible that you might stay with a relative or friend for awhile? You have to have a place to live in the USA before they will grant the visa as far as I know. Use the address where you think you will be staying. This is where the social security card and green card will arrive.

Yes, just use a friends or relative's address. You can change it later, once you have a lease signed or buy a home.

Me: Irish/ Swiss citizen, and now naturalised US citizen. Husband: USC; twin babies born Feb 08 in Ireland and a daughter in Feb 2010 in Arkansas who are all joint Irish/ USC. Did DCF (IR1) in 6 weeks via the Dublin, Ireland embassy and now living in Arkansas.

We are using a relative's address as we have no fixed address in the USA at the moment. The question asks where you "intend to live" - not where you definitely will be spending the rest of your days.

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

Interview: December 6, 2016 London

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

Interview: March 22, 2021 Seattle

Oath: March 22, 2021 COVID-style same-day oath

 

Now a US citizen!

June 17, 2010: Arrived for second in-person meeting and start of travel together to other areas of China!
June 21, 2010: Engaged!!!
September 1, 2010: Switched course from K1 to CR-1
December 8, 2010: Wedding date set; it will be on February 18, 2011!
February 9, 2011: Depart for China
February 11, 2011: Registered for marriage in Wuhan, officially married!!!
February 18, 2011: Wedding ceremony in Shiyan!!!
April 22, 2011: Mailed I-130 to Chicago
April 28, 2011: Received NOA1 via text/email, file routed to CSC (priority date April 25th)
April 29, 2011: Updated

eh - this one not so important.

remember, the address in usa, put in the ds-260, is where the green card will be mailed to.

don't worry about an exact answer for now, but put something (cousin's address? uncle's address?)

later on, after the i-130 is approved, remember that you, the sponsor and petitioner, has to prove up domicile or prove up re-establishing domicile, from form I-864, sent into NVC during the NVC doc intake process.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

when we were filling and lived in Belgium where my husband was stationed, we just knew we re going to El paso. So on form we filled no address right now due to military PCS, only duty station known. We never had problem.
