Hi. Can someone help me, please, in preparing the K-1 for my sweetheart in China? It is my understanding that her birth certificate and divorce decrees can be translated into English by any certified translator in China or the US, but she insists that it has to be translated by the “confirm office” in China, although she says she is told it would cost about $200 US each to have them translated there. Any thoughts or recommendations? Any idea what is a reasonable cost?

She’s also saying that she has to have her birth certificate and divorce decree “confirmed” or “certified” at the “confirm office.” By “confirmed” I suspect she means notarized, but I don’t see why the copies she obtained from there aren’t already notarized, not to mention that I don’t see where it says they need to be notarized anyway. Also, is the “confirm office” the same thing as the “foreign affairs marriage office” she has also mentioned?

Also, she insists that she has to go to her former employer to get a copy of her birth certificate. Why would it be there? Shouldn’t she be able to get that from a government office?

Thanks so much for your help.

Tom
