Hi I am an American woman and I have a few questions I hope to get answers to. I was once before married to an Egyptian guy and he is now an American Citizen. We have since been divorced and I am now engaged and my fiancée is Egyptian and living and working in Saudi Arabia. We are getting married in May in Egypt. I have noticed there have been some changes since my previous marriage. There are 2 requirements now which are us to have medical exams in Egypt before we are married. Can anyone tell me where you go for these and if you need appointments and the cost. Also it says I have to send my divorce papers to the Egyptian Consulate here in the US to be authenticated before I go to Egypt. Can anyone please give me the info and procedure on how to do these things. Basically all info on current marriages being done in Egypt would be greatly appreciated? I would also like to add that my husband and I am not going to apply for any visa..I will be living with him in Saudi Arabia.

Thank You

Farrah

Assalaam alaikum ya Farrah. I would be very happy to help you. Can you tell me which state you live in ( to provide the closest Egyptian embassy's information to you), where in Egypt you will marry(I.e. Cairo, Sharm, Alexandria) so I can give you a list of both private and government hospitals.

I am planning on doing an Islamic marriage in Alex first and then doing the legal marriage in Cairo. I was unaware that you can do the legal marriage in Alex? If it is possible Alex would be much better because that is where he is from. I live in Minnesota so I believe the Egyptian Consulate is Chicago. Thank you for your reply? All info is greatly appreciated.

Hi

I understand all of the steps on getting married except for authentication of my previous divorce papers at the Egyptian consulate here in the US. Is this true that I have to do this and how do go about doing this?? And also wondering where we go in Egypt for the pre marriage medical exams.

Thank You

Congrats on your upcoming wedding!

As for the medical exam (which I thought was a joke when I got married in Egypt), I believe any government hospital in Egypt can do the exam. I know there are plenty in Alexandria, so I would ask probably ask his family members to help you locate the closest one.

Also, I was under the impression (and of course this could be 100% wrong, so please forgive me) that if you do the Islamic marriage, you can ask the official to get the required stamps/permissions to have it legalized as well. This is what I did when I was in Egypt, and had no issue--except we waited longer than usual and paid the official more than the typical fee... full disclosure though: I do carry an Egyptian ID (I was born in Egypt), so that might have made the process easier? Not really sure.

Thank you for your reply. I will have him look into the medical exam for us. The only thing I can't seem to get an answer to is for how to go about authenticating my previous divorce papers at the Egyptian consulate here in the US. I have emailed the American embassy in Cairo and they just answered yes to do that before I go to Egypt. I have also contacted the Egy consulate in Chicago and have not heard anything yet. If anyone knows anything about how to do this please let me know. ?
