I am fed up! I have been trying really hard to get my Td as it is out of date but my GP says I don't need it and if I want it for immigration purposes has now said they want a letter from the embassy saying I need it!! How am I suposed to get that? I'm going to try and pay to get it done at boots who are also saying only for travel purposes and may not do it, otherwise I guess I will have it done at Knightsbridge.

It took me 6 months to get an appointment to view my medical record as I have some health issues I wanted to read about before asking for letters for the medical. I'm glad I'm doing it now. I've a feeling I won't get an appointment to get the letter written until the end of Febuary and if all is going well it looks like it may be a possibility that my medical could be in march (end of). I just want to make sure I have everything in order. I don't understand why my GP has to make me jump though hoops of fire.

Does anyone have any other suggestions of places I could get Td done if boots won't do it?

You could try travel clinics. I live in Glasgow and i was required to get MMR jab and my doctor would not give it me due to my AGE ( they are not allowed to administer over certain age group). they gave me a number of travel clinic in Glasgow. The nurse there new all the guidelines for VIsas etc and wasnt that expensive.

Thank you, I am going to ask in Boots since I am getting my Hep B booster done there (nothing to do with the visa) anyway. But they may not do it because it's not for travel purposes.

Then I would tell them it's for travel purposes. Surely a paying customer can buy what he wants at Boots? What business is it of theirs? You're paying for it.

go online to their website if it says they can do Td then they will do it. If they dont then search online for travel clinics in your area and compare the prices with Knightsbridge. And in theory it is for travel purposes and even then they will not turn away a paying customer.

Wow your GP practice is not as friendly as mine :(

As to proving you need it you could print the requirements from the medical and show them that?

It was my GP's practice nurse that mentioned MMR, I hadnt realised i needed to have it as it wasn't given when I was a child and if it wasn't for her I would have been paying at Knightsbridge!

Hope you get it resolved without too much hassle :)

Everything crossed for a smooth and stress free journey

Not everybody needs MMR, I certainly had what I needed at the local surgery.

My doctors isn't very good when it comes to paperwork at all and are very strict about what they will or will not do.. If I'd of known that I'd of picked somewhere slightly further away that was.. but I don't really want to change now since they are getting some of the other things sorted... slowly.. but I'll see.

wow dude - what an unhelpful GP. Mine did all of mine, and for free, knowing it was for immigration. I just printed the list and told them to jab me up.

I suppose transferring doctors would just add time to the process.

When you have your medical, if you need further jabs, Knightsbridge do issue a letter of what is required, but you really don't want to be doing this after the medical. Especially if your doctors are slow.

Hope it all works out for you.

Alternatively, get them done at Knightsbridge and pay for them. Expensive, but at least it will be done, and you can stick a middle one up to the GP?!

I am the beneficiary originally from UK !!

I'm hoping to get it done at boots next Friday. I have an appointment but it's whether or not they will do it. My GP won't do it with out a letter and as I said if worst comes to worst I will get it done at Knightsbridge. I don't understand why it's so hard to PAY for a vaccination. I offered to pay my surgery and they said no. I've tried everything. Honestly I am struggling to get done what I needed done and they are the worst doctors I've ever been at for everything. The only reason I'm not changing is because it's only 6 more months until I am suposed to be moving as long as the visa goes though in time. Of course I have made nothing final, but I still am hoping to move late July.

Don't let it get you down. My GP messed me about for about 8 weeks over this. I went from no to yes to yes but it'll have to be a private prescription to the pharmacy saying only the GP could order the vaccines to no we can't do it now! I gave up on the end & just got my flu at Boots with the rest of them done at Knightsbridge (MMR & Td).

Factoring in travel & time to get them at a private travel clinic made them dearer than Knightsbridge anyway.

Well I live quite near boots and was going to get my hep B done anyway since I am hoping to stay working in healthcare where I will need it. But I asked them to add the Td on to it and I will see if they will let me next week, my appointment is next friday so I'll let you all know if they do. But at least it's not like I need a course, I only need a booster so I can just get it done at Knightsbridge and it'll still be ok. There is only a £3 difference in price anyway. It's just peace of mind that I have it already, instead of fussing over it on a day I am worrying about anyway.

Not a bad plan because some of the nurses at Knightsbridge will tell you you don't need it until AOS and don't want to bother with you. A few have had to insist "I want it today!" You don't want that stress and confusion. The nurse doesn't quite understand the benefit of having everything on the visa vaccination sheet and will tell you do it later.
