Hello,

I intend to apply for a B2 visa for my spouse and kids to visit my mother, who is a US Citizen and is unable to travel due to age related ailments. I already have a valid B1/B2 visa. My questions for filling the forms for my wife and kids are as under:

i) Do Mother in Law, Brother in Law and Sister in Law qualify as "IMMEDIATE RELATIVE" in case of my wife to answer question "DO YOU HAVE ANY IMMEDIATE RELATIVE, NOT INCLUDING PARENTS IN THE US". Also in case of forms for my kids do they qualify as CLOSE RELATIVE being Grandmother, Uncle and Aunt?

ii) Is there any implication of assisting my wife in filling her online application form DS160 and answering the question "DID ANYONE ASSIST YOU IN FILLING OUT THIS APPLICATION" in affirmative? Since english is not our native language and my wife is not a regular computer user, i will have to fill the form for her and the kids.

Would appreciate guidance on the matter.

Immediate relatives are related by blood and are one position away rom you in a family tree. So that would be your mother, father, brother, sister, son and daughter.

In-laws are related by marriage, not blood. If you were ever to divorce they wouldn't be your relatives anymore but your mother will always be your mother.

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

Interview: December 6, 2016 London

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

Interview: March 22, 2021 Seattle

Oath: March 22, 2021 COVID-style same-day oath

Now a US citizen!
