Invitation letter (again) for a B2 visa

A good CO (I was one) upon arriving at a new assignment overseas, spends some time (2-4 weeks, with assistance) doing something called a 'validation study'...I ask my FSNs to pull visa issuances randomly for the past 3 years, then make phone calls to see who came back and who didn't....that sampling gives me a good idea of what's going on....for ex, in one country in which I worked, this study revealed that applicants between the ages of about 20 through 32 had a non-return rate of about 92%.....when broken down according to gender, it read like this:

males: 86% females : 99% = 185/2 = 92-93%....!!!!!!

Guess what the refusal rate at the window became for first time applicants? yep...94% (we have to err on the side of caution!)

Of the 6% or so that were issued, the overstay/non-return rate remained about the same!!!! So, we upped the ante, so to speak, and the refusal rate went up a bit....

I would guess that the non-return rate of marriageable women from the Ukraine is around 85-90%....way to high to issue B2 visas casually.

And while the OP claims he would toss his GF into the street while speed dialing ICE, the fact remains that his 'little head' would be doing most of the talking....and what CO would believe that some love-struck Amcit would drop a dime on his Ukrainian sweetie??????

Bottom line: good COs are not naïve, not stupid, and can see through the malarkey. Now, if our politicians had some 'cojones' and passed some meaningful/enforceable laws that ended AOS from B2's, punished overstayers without exception, then maybe a few more people might get a visa....but until that day comes ( about one day after the sun burns out!!!), a good CO is going to be the primary border protection agent, like it or not.

Hey Robert,

Welcome to VJ.

You need to check whatever is going on.

You are not a part of her visitor visa application.

You ###### about all those who abuse their B-2s, insinuating that the CO don't know how to do their jobs. You think you know better. You think an invitation letter from you makes your girlfrield different from those who would abuse their B-2s. You say you would put her out. DUH????? What do you think those who abuse their B2s do? Still around with the chup who brought them to America?

You think you are special. You are not. You are like the rest of us.

You think the CO are idiots. They are not.

The system is far from perfect. But the CO have a fairly good handle on the type of people who abuse their visitor visas.

It's impossible to have a perfect system where every B-2 abuser would be caught beforehand (Minority Report). It's also impossible to grant visas to everyone who would not abuse a B-2.

Accept that you are irrelevant to her getting a visitor visa because that is how the system works. You bitching about it will not change it.

I have a friend that came here from the Ukraine on a visitor visa. She was a professional dancer in her hometown and got a job here to work. Guess where she went when her work permit ended?? lol She 'found a guy to fall in love with' shortly after she came here and then had a kid ect...

Your 'friend' is not banned from the country. Apply again for a B2 and see what happends and if that doesnt work out go the K1 route if you are serious about a life together with her?

Go visit her! if you aren't willing to make a commitment to go through with a K1 then look for another girlfriend that is american.

....85-90%.....I rest my case.....if the COs in the Ukraine did a validation study, I would bet a lot of $$$ that this number is dead on the money...especially now! Just ask yourself this question: why would a marriageable woman between 20-32, with a 'job' paying $400 a month, living in a country under fire, with little prospects for a viable future, return to the Ukraine instead of staying in the US with just about any American man? If you can come up with a credible answer to that question, one that would be viable 90%+ of time, let's hear it. Otherwise, guess why the refusal rate is (likely) so high in the Ukraine in this demographic group?
