police check

I'm sure this has been asked before but I can't seem to find what I'm looking for using the search feature OR in google...

I'm hearing that we don't need the fingerprint check but just a regular police check if we don't have any criminal record... so my question is... where can I get this? Can I get it from any police station in Canada? Also can I obtain it by ordering it online???

Go to the Commissionaires in Ottawa: http://www.commissionaires-ottawa.on.ca. They will do your Canada-wide background check. You don't need fingerprints if you do not have a record.

The certificate is good for 1 year so you really don't get it done until you have your checklist from Montreal.

you need a Canada Wide Name Check

i went to our local RCMP office to get mine...at the time it cost me 30 bucks and they gave me two copies....

Funny how this subject is brought up almsot weekly! lol One requires a CANADA WIDE name check. For most of Canada this can be done by ur local RCMP and now even your local police Force. Phone ahead and see if they do it to be sure. If in Greater Toronot area check out the Commisionaires, link provide by Misa. The time it takes for the police check to be completed varies. Some its completed on the spot, others up to a week. Some charge a fee, some do not, some will take ur pic and attach to it, most do not. Some the cert looks very official, others look like a 2 yr old wrote it up. Some detachments want proof of some sorts why u require it (I printed off info from USCIS website, or bring ur letter stating u need it) some do not!! For the most part,its one of the easiest documents to get. best of luck

Mine looks like a kid did it on their computer. It's a yellow half sheet with my photo on it (photo printed on it with a streaky inkjet printer). It is signed and stamped with the RCMP person's name, credentials and location but no raised seal. Got it from the Commissionnaires in downtown Toronto. $35, took 5 business days and they didn't require any proof of why I needed it but I told them it was for U.S. Immigration.

Oh I can definitely wait for Monday, our petition was only sent in a few days ago and hopefully received either yesterday or today, so I don't need the police check yet

You don't, u can get it asap if u wish!! Just check on other timelinbes to see how long the K1 process is taking. But as others have stated, its a easy docuemnt to get, and normally doesnt take long

You will have plenty of time to get it when you get your packet 3 from Montreal.

In the meantime, make sure you have a long form birth certificate (has your parents names on it) and a valid passport with an expiration date of, oh, I would say since you just started, more than a year. Also have your fiance look over the I-134 support form which you'll need for the interview.

Thanks for the tips. I almost ordered the long copy of my birth certificate but it turns out my Dad thinks he has it, so he's going to check. My passport expires in 2009 so it should be okay. I'll get him to look over those forms...we talked a bit about them but I don't think he's looked at them yet. Thanks!

I called the corp this morning wanting to get the contact they and was told by the receptionist that the Commissionaires in Ottawa no longer do background checks which I think is not right and she was misinformed. All I can suggest right now is that you contact them by dialing 613-231-6462 and then extension 602 which will bring you to the security clearance administrator.
