Hi everybody,

I've been waiting for my interview for 3 months till now and it is coming in early February. I and my wife ( the sponsor ) have no idea about the process, type of questions, time of interview. We would appreciate your help regarding this because we don't want to mess around in a crucial interview like that.

Thanks..

When my wife petitioned for me in 2012, we hired a lawyer to guide us through the process and attend the interview with us. My wife is older than I am and we were worried they would give us a difficult time. The interview lasted abut 15 minutes and the questions were based on how we met, and about our family.

Oh great thanks for reassuring. We are a little bit worried about if it didn't go well, we cannot be separated. Did they ask about the age difference as a big deal ? And how much is age difference between you ? We are also different in religion, age and family.

Well, they didn't ask about the age difference, or atleast they didn't make it an issue. They did ask how we met, and if our families knew each other before we met. They ask how I got along with her children and that was it. I guess the questions is only part of the interview. They also watch how you interact with each other.

Good that's a relief thank you. One more thing to know, how was the dynamic of the interview going ? Who should answer the questions, the petitioner (US citizen) or beneficinary(alien) ? Or the officer will direct questions to each of us and we both should answer respectively ? If only one person talks and the other is silent, is that ok or not ?

When they intended me to answer they asked me directly and same for her. Although there were times they asked my wife a question and I saw she was going astray and I interjected and corrected her. The IO understood why I did. Good Luck and don't stress over it too much.

Hi,

The type of questions that can be asked vary. Some IOs just ask the basic questions from the application (including questions based on your bio forms) They can ask x number of questions (I was asked 2 - what your mother in laws name and dob of my husband). Some IOs can be very specific and ask you questions about your personal life and dig deep. Usually that happens when they want to assure themselves that you are genuinely together. These questions include: what time do you go to bed, what did you eat last night, when was the last time you got intimate with each other, what is the color of your spouses' toothbrush, how much is your cable bill.... very detail-oriented questions! "Normal" interview should not last more than 20-30 minutes, unless they separate you. Good luck :)
