Jayess21, I have an RFIE on I-485, and it has been 30 days after they received it, with no update... :(

Does your online status say 'response received' or 'response under review'? Mine says only received, which I think means that the USCIS has not yet seen what I sent back as the RFIE response...

Any one else in a similar situation?

I just called uscis, they said that with RFIE the case does not reset but is placed on hold. So you still should be counting time from January. If it is over 6 months after the application was received, you can submit a service request and notify them that your application is out of the normal processing time.

Got my EAD card today too! YAY

For the RFE - it depends on whether they are asking for request for INITIAL evidence vs request for ADDITIONAL evidence.
From what I've seen on the USCIS website, and from talking to the immigration officer (tier 2) they are different.
Initial evidence resets your clock whereas additional evidence simply pauses it.

Problem with this is that Tier 1 initially told me that the words are used interchangeably and they mean the same thing. But if you do some more research online and talk to Tier 2 you will see that they are quite different.

Also if you have a request for INITIAL evidence, other supplemental forms like EAD, Advance parole will be put on hold.
For ADDITIONAL evidence, only the form that it was issued on is put on hold and the EAD and AP will still be processed.

Hope that is helpful. I did some searching when we were issued an RFI which was cancelled the same day. However, USCIS did not update my case online and so I continued to stress about it for 2 weeks before talking to a Tier 2 person who told me it was actually cancelled the same day that it was issued (was relieved, but annoyed at the fact that I had sleepless nights for about 2 weeks for no reason).

Have you gotten yours in the mail yet? Most are issued for financial reasons - taxes and forms etc.

That sounds great. Thanks so much for calling USCIS! I will wait until June then and place a SR. I wish there was some way to expedite I-485... I am moving to another state in August, and really need to wrap up the GC business before that. I can of course change my address then (which I will if the process continues then) but I have heard that changing field offices cause further delay to receive an interview notice because files move from USCIS office to another.

Congrats on the EAD-AP card! Glad it all worked out well.

My RFIE was last month (tax forms and I-864 missing... donno how it was missing though). It was for initial evidence. We sent back the response and case status updated to 'response received.' It was only after that I expedited EAD-AP, which worked. So, it was going to reset my EAD-AP but because expedite request worked, I was not affected.

Hope the interview notice arrives before June. Changing field offices for interview may cause annoying delays...

Jayess21 - it might be worth it to check the processing time at your current field office vs the field office where you will move. You never know, you might get it faster there. Changing address is done online, not sure if there is a lot of paperwork involved with that. Let me know if you end up doing it, I'm interested to know the process as I may be moving in a few months as well.

Yes, the process to change address is simple and the new field office may be faster. However, the USCIS often does not update the new address which leads to notices being sent to the old address even after address update. The lawyers I consulted asked me to keep the old address as long as possible. If I can at least get the interview notice in the next 30-60 days, that would be ideal.

Let me know how your address update goes.
