My parents are driving my moving truck over a week later do they need any paperwork so the boarder doesn't give them a hard time. I won't be with them obviously since I can't go back until I get AP

I really think you might have a problem with this plan. To the border guards, it will look like your parents are moving their stuff to the U.S. without a proper visa.They may very well not be allowed to cross at all, and they may be flagged as having immigrant intent and turned back at the border on future visits. I'd look into it.

Yeah I'd be worried about this too. When I crossed with my stuff I had an itemized list of what was in every box. As I packed each box I recorded what was in it. When I got to the border I gave them that list. I don't think I've read anywhere of anyone doing what you're planning to do.

I used Uhaul. I didn't go with necessarily the cheapest option and I had no problems crossing or returning the truck in the US. If you order it early (which is recommended) there's a good chance they'll call back and upgrade the size free of charge. I reserved a 17ft truck about 2 weeks before and they called a day or two beforehand and offered a 26 footer. I couldn't take it... that thing was way too big to drive! The 17ft one was bad enough lol

Thanks...I will look them up. Did they charge you tax on your things? What about the car, I read somewhere that you can get the dealership to give you a form stating that your car is ok if it passes emission tests...

If you plan on importing your car you need both a recall letter and a compliance letter. You can search the forums on how to get those... my car failed because it didn't have a passenger side air bag. And yes, you'll have to pay tax on your car if you choose to import.

No tax on your stuff though, but there's restrictions. Things like no house plants, etc.

You do not pay duty on houshold items that you previously owned. Also you have 10 years to move your things (1 year to import a car.) If anyone but you bring over your things you need special paperwork. We've written about these things in the Canada forum for quite sometime and there are many posts on the subject. Most things you are also able to google and look up on the CBP website.

We took 2 vehicles. You go first, make sure your fiance goes right behind you so you can get the same guy. That makes it easier to say I'm here to endorse my visa and my fiance is in the car right behind me. Then he can flag both of you through to park and go inside.

I travelled with my USC spouse in separate cars, earlier this month crossing at the thousand islands bridge (ON/NY). I went first and besides letting them know that I was planning to activate my IR-1, that my spouse was in the car behind and had some of my belongings. Apparently it's not very common to travel together because when she got to the window, the CBP officer didn't know what to do. Eventually she was allowed to park with me and enter as I had my paperwork completed. But I would suggest having a meet up place just in case your fiancé isn't allowed to wait with you.

As for bringing the car - all I had was a compliance letter. I got a compliance letter from Nissan by calling the customer service number. The compliance letter states that the car meets all US regulations - if there are any recalls or issues with your model. If there are any recalls you will have to fix them before crossing. There will be a note about running lights (Canadian cars have them, while US models don't) - I didn't bother fixing this based on what I had read here and they was no issues when I crossed. When I got to the boarder I let them know that I was importing my car and they filled out all paperwork for me. I did not have to pay any taxes on the car (but from my research, would be taxed if I sold the car within a year).

My car has an EPA sticker so apperently I don't have to pay tax. I'm crossing the boarder on the 22nd so I'm not completely sure yet but so far what I have googled things look good I re post when I past ! As long as your stuff is all yours and not like newly bought and you don't plan on selling it to US citizens you don't have to pay tax.

You will most likely have to have an out of state VIN inspection and then get your ownership transferred to a state title and pay the taxes accordingly in your home state. I don't believe you pay at the border. You didn't used to do that but perhaps it has changed.

When I crossed over, I came by myself thru Lewiston/Queenston NY in a Uhaul with all of my stuff and had no problem. I had the itemized list as well but they didn't even bother looking at it.
