I applied for I751 in may 2015 and my case is still pending. I have filed a case inquiry.

April 23 2016 i will be eligible to apply for citizenship( 90 day window ). Can i go ahead and apply for Citizenship even though my i751 is still not processed ?

I have read threads where people did that. Please share your thoughts if this is the right step to take.

I have the same question and I also applied in May of 2015. I am just worried to apply while my 10-year card isn't with me yet for two reasons:

1. Won't you need a valid GC in order to apply in case your test/interview comes before the new card arrives?

2. What will happen if an RFE comes while the I-751 is pending and you already submitted your N-400?

Thanks for your help!

From what i've read on this forum, we will be well within our right to apply for N400 even if I-751 is pending.

Yes we do need a valid GC while we file the N400, however many members mentioned that a copy of your conditional Green card and extention letter from I751 will work. Read NickD's post. He has shared his own experience in several posts.

If you do get RFE for I-751 just reply to it i guess.

The whole point from my understanding is that your N400 application will push I751 as well. I guess when we file N400, our I-751 file gets transferred, to the local office and they are faster there.

Any experienced members out there yours thoughts on this would be appreciated.

I was told by my IO that it's best to wait, as different service centers might be handling each case and that could cause a delay in either case, when either service center need your files.

Fortunately my I-751 got approved yesterday. Checked the status online today.

I read a somewhere on the forum that one guy was told the same when he went to get passport stamped at the infopass appt. But if my I-751 was still pending at the time i became eligible for citizenship i would have applied for it.

I don't see any sense in waiting. As it is these things take so long.
