Iam Tunisian and i wanna ask a question that looks maybe stupid but i always keep asking myself about why americans marry girls from philipines and it is always a female never a male.Is marriage always based on falling in love with someone? I said maybe the countries are close to each other and then i found out that they are really far.Can someone from philipines or an american married to will marry a philipinos explain the reason of this common relation.I dont have any problem with anyone for their decisions and hope no one feel offended about what iam saying,it is just my thinking. Thanks

man, if'n i could find a Tunisian lass, I'd JUMP! My major malfunction seems to be,

that

they are surrounded by brothers, uncles, male cousins

and

I have huge problems piercing that veil.

GRRR !

In the Tunisian culture, we have something called 'respect' for women. Muslims don't talk about 'jumping' at the sight of one, like she is an object. This is why our women choose not to marry foreigners. All disrespect and no class or honor.

i'm sure there's a problem in verbiage and application of verbiage.

But I digress.

Possible factors to support your observation:

1. Much older American men have the opportunity to marry far younger Filipinas.

2. Some Filipinas seem to look forward to sending money from the U.S. to support their families.

3. The Manila embassy seems to issue K-1/CR-1 visas freely, unlike in most third-world countries.

4. In recent years, the USCIS has expedited the processing of Philippines-related petitions.

Others can expand on (or refute) the ideas suggested above.

In regard to your other question, the decision to marry can be based on factors besides love: a financial focus (how well can the potential husband support the potential wife), the respect offered by the potential mate, and other considerations. This leads to deeper discussions of relationship psychology that might or might not depend on cultural factors. If I had to pick the most fundamental characteristics for forming lasting relationships, they would be availability and readiness.

The sad aspect is that we seem to get far more information on how to buy a car, a laundry machine, or a refrigerator than we do on how to select a mate. There's great wisdom in the old saying "Marry in haste, repent in leisure."

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

all your points could just as easily apply to many other countries.... based on your opinion and not fact - obviously.

Your intial question was disrespectful to the Phillipino culture

Here are some basic reasons for the large number of couples.

1. Shared language. English is an official language of the Philippines.

2. Shared religion: Catholicism.

3. The Philippines used to be colony of the US.

4. Large US military bases used to be there. Most military personnel are male.

5. Exchange rate.

Lots of other reasons, but just wanted to give you a few facts.

I don't know about anybody else but I married my Filipino wife because I love her! I never thought about ease of visas or expediting a visa or if the embassy was easier in one country or another. I really was impressed with the culture of the Philippines and how family is so important there and the feminine qualities that you find in Filipinas that is missing in a lot of American women now. Me and my wife have a great relationship and life together and I couldn't be happier. Since the OP asked the question why Americans marry girls from the Philippines then I ask why do Americans marry males or females from Tunisia? That question could be asked of all of us regarding countries of our significant others. I think each one of us would have a unique answer specific to their lives but one common answer no matter what country is that this is the person you love so really it doesn't matter what country or part of the world they are from.
