I opened this and immediately thought: this is the reason there are issues in the USA. I cannot tell if you're joking or not about if you actually know the difference between different party types and how far left or right they believe.

I used to keep up.

Why? When a dumb-@ss gets nominated, the system is broken. It doesn't matter that he won the general election, then ran for the POTUS slot and won it.

What matters to me, is that a dumb-@ss got nominated. Each time that happens, I take pause.

When it happened it Texas, well, I left Texas and lived my life in Singapore for 18 months, thinking 'the occurence' was a fluke.

It wasn't a fluke. It's since turned into the most gawd-awful f'ed path since I was age 3.

Yes and no. The Democratic party represents a very broad spectrum of Americans, some are socialist e.g Bernie Sanders, while others are more right leaning supporters of large corporate interests e.g. Hillary Clinton.

Did you know that one of the reasons Republicans go after Hillary about Benghazi and other non relevant issues, is because they can't attack her voting record, without making themselves look stupid.

I thought Hillary only had her own self interest in mind when she votes.

I think the question really should apply to the party leaders. Many people think the Dems are more left leanings, and the Repubs are more to the right, but honestly it is hard to tell them apart sometimes especially when it comes to the federal politicians. I have known many Dem politicians that were actually very conservative both socially, and fiscally, as well as several Repubs that were the opposite.

I am not sure anyone would consider Chris (my leg is tingling) Matthews as too far to the right. It is interesting that he is only asking this question of Dems. Is it to get them to actually acknowledge Bernie is a true socialist?

You posted yourself "is there a difference?". Chris Matthew stumping someone with a question is not the same as people who actually believe there is no difference.

The farther Republicans have to go to the right, the more problem they will have attracting the middle ground. Republicans in this country are farther away from center than Democrats. That's a bigger issue for Republicans to sort out than where Democrats are on the political spectrum.

No Your party has moved way to the right. Sure, Democrats are relatively farther away on the spectrum, but they didn't actually move.
