After NOA2/Preparing Packet 3

Hi all, I received NOA2 a week ago and am trying to figure out the exact next steps but I see conflicting information everywhere...I think some of it is just old...so just looking for some confirmation. Is the following correct?

In a week or so, I should call the NVC to see if they've received it, ask them for a case number, and that's it. Then a week or so later, e-mail the consulate in Montreal to see if they've received it, and if so then I can start working on Packet 3.

That is what I think is correct, but I've seen some people say you can start working on Packet 3 after contacting NVC, and I've seen some people mentioning calling the Department of State...? I've read all the guides I could get my hands on, just looking for some clarification since some info seems to be conflicting.

Thanks. :)

Since your application was approved you can now start going things for your packet 3,

A packet 3 is just a list of things you need for the interview, once you check everything you mail or email it back to the Montreal consulatant were they will give you packet 4 which tells you how to book your interview and medical

Best of luck :)

Thanks but I meant what are the usual documents that they request (the ones listed on the packet 3) I am trying to see if I can prepare some of the documents already like the police certificate. :)

-Police Certificate

-Birth Certificate

-Medical Exam (plus get all the shots you have recived)

-DS-160 (you fill that out online)

-6 passport photos (2 for interview and 4 for medical)

-Scan a coloured copy of your passport the Bio part

- have your USC fiancé fill out the I-134 affidavit of support with 3 years of tax returns, w2 and 3 months of pay stubs

- have your fiancé give you proof that he lives in the US like bank records car/house bills etc

-a new copy of letter of intent (should be less the 30 days of the interview)

That's all I know at the top of my head

Hi mash, i see in the sticky guide it says to turn in form Ds -156k, ds- 156 and ds-230? Do we have to fill those forms out and send it with the packet 3? Because the montreal packet 3 list does not say so. Thats where it gets confusing for me Edited by DizzyLixt

Sticky thread is old. Form numbers are obsolete. Ds-160 is all you need now.
