Hi, you do it through CKGS now. I did this for myself and my parents. You can apply for a visa and do the renunciation at the same time. Make sure to read and follow directions carefully.

https://www.in.ckgs.us/how-to-apply/5/1/v

https://www.in.ckgs.us/visa

You can apply for the OCI but it takes about 2-3 months. There is much more paperwork but it's worth it if you want to stay more than 6 months or own property there.

this is 100% WRONG. The US does NOT ask you to give up other citizenships to become a citizen here. Have you never heard of dual citizenship? If you do not know the answer to a question do not guess, refrain from answering at all because it causes confusion.

If you kept reading you would've seen that I have already admitted that I was not 100% correct in my reply. Since this is a self help forum and I thought I knew what I was stating I stated it. If I said something wrong someone would come and correct me, which they did. No need to jump in weekend warrior style and attack me directly. Next time read the whole line of replies and see that I already realized I was wrong and stop adding to the clutter by trying to put me down.

Ohh yes. :goofy::goofy:

:P haha I ended up not even being able to help with the actual question that OP had. Maybe I should get back to focusing on my job.

Im glad the others were able to answer OP's question even beside our pointless discussion on the side.

Love the 'not 100% correct'.

Mistakes can be made, but obviously this was a biggie. Try asking it as a question in future, ie What impact does US Naturalisation have on your other Citizenship(s)?.

PS Most I have personally come across is 5, no doubt somebody has more.

Unfortunately I thought I knew what I was talking about. But if I was not certain I definitely would have asked.

Well, the Oath of Allegiance suggest so in (2):

"....Renounce and abjure absolutely and entirely all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty of whom or which the applicant was before a subject or citizen;.."

So that can be confusing. You can be a dual citizen.however, the Oath of Allegiance suggest [you renounce all allegiance..to any state]

Plenty of threads on this, I for one have never made any allegiances to renounce, YMMV.

Sure !

Step 1 - Find Indian Aunty !

Step 2 - Buy Indian Aunty nice chai with milk

Step 3 - Ask Indian Aunty about her recent USA citizenship process and the stuff she did to get or maintain PR/I.

But Step 1 is crucial ! :D

I just noticed this reply so it's probably too late. Tourist Visa is much faster and less of a headache. But OCI is basically like an Indian permanent residency for US citizens.

But yes, your wife can also get an OCI if she has Indian parents, grand parents, spouse that is of Indian origin or OCI cardholder. See the FAQ page: https://www.in.ckgs.us/oci/faqs.shtml
