hi everyone.

I had social security numer in October 2015 (moved with K1 and now have GC).

As you know there is website called ''my social security''......i tried to sign up and put my information in but it said my information didn't match.

I tried it right after i got a card so at that time I thought they didn't have my info yet or something.

well....then i recently try to buy a car cos I need one to go get a job and go to work since I got GC in Jan.

I told a dealer my SSN but then later on they said they couldn't verify my information.

I was like....WT*.......

I have social security number with new last name(husband name), my Drver's license with new last name and my GC with new last name.

what is going on?

Anyone had same experience before ? or know how to fix it???

I need some help otherwise, i might not be able to get a job or anyrhing;;;

suggest you:

1. get a prepaid deposit credit card from any bank and

2. file taxes with your spouse, married filing jointly status

then

about 4 months after your taxes are processed by the IRS, you'll have some history.

So far, you don't have any credit history or SSN usage history...

Using #1 gives you entries in a credit history file and

Doing #2 validates you across many 'things'.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

Well to login, my social security verifies your identity from credit bureau and since your SS is new, you might not have any history on file. And same thing goes for buying new vehicle since your SS is new.

What you can do is get NUMI letter from SSA for verification and usually banks accept it to verify your identity.

Call SSA to check how does your name saved in their system. I had the same issue with my name, credit card and background check for a job. They couldn't verify me because SSA has my name in the incorrect format. So only learned that my name was incorrect when I already lost the job I was offered.

You very likely will not be able to buy a car unless you're paying cash for a used one that you can afford. If you were trying to buy or lease a new vehicle, that is 100% dependent on credit rating and longevity, of which you have neither. The only way any dealer is going to give you financing is if you have someone with said credit history and longevity that will co-sign for you and be responsible for payments if you flake.

You can also call them. They will just verify some information but will let you know how it is listed.

lol. I totally know where you are coming from! It doesn't end there if my assumption is correct. I had to call the 3 credit bureau to correct my name and delete the wrong names( yes, names) they messed up my name pretty bad.

Wow that sounds like my problem is way smaller than yours cos I don't have any credit score or history to pull out yet....just my name don't match up with number....

But still....frustrating.....

It is frustrating. The credit agencies are private businesses. I've had to correct my credit reports many times over the years. The main reason is that they mixed me up with my brother who has a similar name. This has been going on since I was 18. It's been over 25 years. The only thing I can do is correct their mistakes which they will continue to make.

green card name not match up with SSN ? ya, fix that, next, nowish and first. Get it fixed before you go through my small instructions prior. You want to build a credit history file in the right name ...

So I went to Social Security Office....they found my number and my name as it shows on SSC.

But because the way I did was.....got married, got SSC, got drivers license and then got GC. I have to update my status.

She was trying to update my status and then.....couldn't.

She said for some reason she couldn't match up stuff so ended up she has to get my all information and send it to homeland security.

1: what is going on with me?

2: if my name and my SSN is matched as it says on my SSC, why I can't open "my social security" account?

It is so frustrating.

You are from Japan right? By any chance do you have or had a bank account in Japan in a financial institution which has branches in the US? I arrived in the US 6 months ago with no credit history, but since I had a bank account in HSBC Brazil, they help me by opening a bank account in the US and issuing a US credit card. Once I had my SSN, they reported 1 and half year of history to the three credit bureaus which helped a lot in building my credit score.

The other alternative is to get a secured credit card, in which you send a check in a specific amount and then they give you a credit limit. A prepaid card won't help you build credit history. A suggested issuer is Capital One, but run away from Credit One. They charge you a lot of fees.
