Passport expired this December ! Help

Will US embassy cancel the old one and reissue another visa on my new passport on the same day ?i have to fly out on January 31, which is the deadline of my K1 . anyone has similar experience ?

You will not be allowed to board the plane with an expired passport. You need a valid passport to fly into the US.

Hopefully, you can get your new passport quickly. Apply for "urgent pick-up" and you can get it by the end of business the next day.

The US Embassy will issue you a new visa in your new passport. Contact them now and see if you can get an appointment. It's unlikely that you will get 1 day service. It will take a few days to print it and have it delivered to you.

I lost my passport before and got a new one in an hour from DT toronto.

I know you can get a passport in an hour. However, I am not sure but I renewed my passport before and they made me send the old one in, and then i requested it to be sent back to me so they did.

You may want to see what to do about that because if you have to send the old passport in to get a new one, that could cause a delay and problems? If you are going through a land border, a BC and expired passport are usually OK, but if you are flying you defintely need a passport that isnt expired.

Do you mean your passport expires Dec 2016?

I would let it expire and then renew it in married name later. As long as it's valid for the duration of the visa you're fine.


(or not in married name if you don't want to change your name...) You can always renew from the USA or while visiting Canada.

I have the same question as NLR. If your passport is expiring in December of THIS year (2016) then just do what NLR suggested. Your topic title says "expireD" as in it is already expired this past December. If you can clarify we can all help properly.

It hasn't expired yet but it has to be at least 6 months valid in order to fly . I was more afraid of having to renewing my passport through mailing and not allowed to get on flight coming back to canada later on ....

Many countries accept a Canadian passport until it expires, check out travel.gc.ca.

You can certainly travel to Canada with a Canadian passport until the expiry date.
