Non I-134 support for girlfriend's B2

Because of the age difference, I think we need some more face time to even decide to get engaged.

I want her to come to see me before we get engaged. That means a B2.

I have read the DOS and threads here on how an I-134 is useless.

She will pass the strong ties to home country test (I think).

When they ask her how she is going to finance her visit, she will say:
My boyfriend will purchase my ticket with frequent flier milers.

He will meet at the airport.

We will stay at his condo

He will bring me back to the airport.

All of this would be true is she were poor or if she were rich.

Given her ties to home, family, and job, including a young son, it seems perfectly plausible that she would not come if all if the above were not going to happen.

The embassy is Ukraine - will this pass the laugh test?

I have a great job as a government contractor that precludes my gaming the immigration system. We regularly bid on work for DHS.

I wonder if a letter of invitation outlining my desire for a longish courtship, my incentive to not game the system, and, say, providing a link to my LinkedIn page would help.

None of that will help.

Lots of women leave children behind because as soon as they are married to their USC boyfriends, the USC stepparents can file for the children.

Home, family, and job. All things she is willing to leave behind for a relationship with you. She would move to the US. You are not moving to the Ukraine.

Nothing precludes you from gaming the system. Even people with government jobs can commit immigration fraud.

Your statement would be self-serving. How would that be different from what a fraudster would say? Is a fraudster going to say he intends to commit fraud or would he say he believes in a long courtship and this is not a way to avoid a K-1 visa?

Her ties are what's important.

Sorry. Just being realistic about how consular officers are going to view this.

Good points all.

Actually, I do plan to move to Ukraine when I retire.

The dollar goes a long ways there.

But I have not purchased an apartment yet.

But again, if I am a scum sucking immigration fraudster, I guess nothing matters.

Part of the problem is you keep focusing on YOU. She needs to focus on her and her ties. Anything about you or what you can do for her (pay for her ticket, finance the trip, etc) will more often than not, act against her.

good luck

I think you are over thinking this, she has money she has ties whether she chooses to use the money or use Air Miles is not relevant.

Good job is a plus.

A lot of people I've known including folks at the embassy in which I was working tried that same rationale...'I'm a government employee, and I don't believe in illegal immigration and my job would be on the line.." yadda yadda yadda....none of that is useful. I had a colonel in our military tell me something similar, about how he 'doesn't tolerate illegal immigration and would not allow his foreign GF to remain in the US....I asked quietly.,..'gosh, sir, how would you prevent that from happening?'.....and guess what....I stumped the 'star.'

It is your GF who will have to do the convincing....no statement of any kind made by you will represent positive equity for her.

As far as leaving the child behind, it happens all of the time....means zilch as far as a reason for her to return, as once she is married to you, you can petition for the child (assuming she has custody)....

Funny how people look at things, I would have thought as a Gov Employee you are effectively bulletproof and it would be a major negative?

I have seen so many threads from Military with illegal spouses and parents etc etc, there is even a special category for them!

Perhaps Military do no count as Gov Employees?

A lot of good points here. The sad reality is she does not have the money to do it her own.

Few single mother teachers in the USA would have that kind of money as well.

I think the best recommendation is to leave it to her and the CO. She either is convincing or she is not.

Thanks

i have a met a few in my travels who did seem to be able to utilise long holiday for trips abroad, now I never did a survey.

You mentioned she had strong ties, so not all is lost, what are they?

Strong ties:

Owns her home.

5 year old son.

Decent job.

Close to her family. We almost did not meet because she would not delay her departure for home to be with her family for New Years.

You just have to hear her talk about her son and her family to know this is true.

On this trip I met a number of English speaking guys. The consensus of this group is that very few women want to leave Ukraine (yet).

They just want a good man in their lives.

Maybe this is why the Kiev embassy is "easy" as of 2009 in another thread. Recent reviews seen to agree.
