Hello,

I am currently in the U.S on an F-1 Student Visa. I do not plan to enroll in classes for this spring semester as I am starting a new program (still in the U.S) in the fall. I don't really know what I can do visa wise that will allow me to stay in the U.S legally for the next 7 months, until my new F-1 visa kicks in. What I was thinking was that I might go home to canada, and then re-enter the U.S on a B-1 visa. does any one know if there are any implications with this plan? does it seem plausible? any advice is greatly appreciated. thank you!

Or, here's an idea -- go to Canada and stay until it's time to resume your studies. If you are honest at the port of entry and say you are just returning to stay for six months (especially if it will be more than that -- you're not clear about when the "7 months" would start) until you start studying again -- at which point you would need to go back to Canada and re-enter in F status again -- you might have some difficulties. Ties to Canada? How are you going to support yourself? etc., etc. All things an immigration officer would take a careful look at.
