Hello,

I have a similar question regarding tax returns. I will be filling the I130 for my husband and have not filled taxes for a while since I have been living abroad.

We have to kids both USC and we all leave abroad. My best friend will be our joint sponsor so we all can move to the States together.

I am making way less then the amount that IRS shows on their website but a USC also leaving abroad told me that she has been filing each year form the forein country even she makes less then the amount.

Does anyone know who I can contact in Europe that does the US tax preparation and filling. Since we do have two children and my husband is not a USC.

Thank you

If you made more than $4000, you need to file a US tax return. The $4000 threshold requiring a tax return is for a married person filing separately which would be your situation.

Many people mistake ruining the $90,000+ Foreign Earned Income Exclusion means they don't have to file a US tax return if they earned less than $90,000. That's incorrect. To qualify for the FEIE, you have to claim it on the US tax return.

Don't confuse the minimum required to file a return vs the minimum before US taxes are owed.
