Hello,

I still have my Social Security Card/Number from the time I was here with a J1. I just went to the office to get my name changed but the women told me "since you have a pending EAD application the K1 ( stated on the I-94) is no longer valid and I can not get the name changed. I asked her if I can use this SSN as soon as I have my EAD since the number will still be the same even if the name changed. And she that "No" I have to get it changed before I can take any jobs.

Do you have any experiences with this?

I just don't want to wait for the EAD card and then another two weeks for the name change on my social security number

you can use it as is, no problems.

she's right about when you are allowed to change it, though.

Study form I-9 when you have a moment.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.
