Sentence question at naturalization interview?

Just a quick question, I was looking through some of the topics on this forum and some of you mention about sentences you have to say or write at the naturalization interview? whats that about, sorry if it's a stupid question, was just curious.

I think mine was something like "She is wearing a red dress" something really simple.

So, do they just give you a sentence to read back to them, so they know that you can read, speak, breathe english? lol

Yeah that's it...I had to read one and write one....A real challenge!!!

The officer who interviewed me said I didn't have to do it because apparently I speak and understand the language. This was after we had a lengthy discussion over naturalization under section 319(a), which took about 30 minutes. I told him that if it's part of the testing process, I should do it. So he made me write, "My husband is waiting for me outside."

So yeah don't sweat it, you'll do just fine

Do they make the British citizens and Canadian citizens or anyone whose first language is English do this? It sounds ridiculous if they do.

The DAH had to write "You cook very well."

I've certainly never heard him say it, so it was good he had to prove he could choke it out if he had to.
