This is a general question - I understand that the Vermont processing center takes 12+ months. I also understand that my husband will need to go to a uscis office and have his passport stamped to extend his stay again after his 1 year extension is up.
Vermont is currently processing applications from OCTOBER and its not november

Could somebody please direct me towards a more concrete explanation of this wheather a thread or a guide or whatnot?

How soon should we go in to talk to USCIS? We received his extension letter on January 18th 2016 - I understand that the appointments can get backed up at uscis and that you must make an appointment. Is now too soon? do i need to wait until December?

anybody have experience with this and can direct me to the appropriate forum and guide. I know i read this somewhere on here but I can't for the life of me remember where I read it.

thank you so much!

just wanted to put my info in here.....we submitted the information and received the notice I 797 extended residence for one year on 1/26/16, from the VT center, She went for biometrics on 2/25/16. We have heard nothing back.

We called the 1800# and the nice lady told us standard answers and that they are handling Oct 2015 cases at this time. I am not sure if they will get to our case before the one year extension expires in January of 2017.

Every time we cross the border, they are asking her questions as to if she renewed the GC and wondering why we havent received the new one.

Same situation. My spouse's extension expires in Jan 2017. What is the process of getting an extension since Vermont will likely not get to Jan filers until later? Any help appreciated.

We made an appointment with the local USCIS office. The officer said "give me your passport and two minutes" and he departed to another room. In less than a minute he returned with an I-551 (green card) stamp on her passport extending her green card for one year from that date. He told us that many, many people are coming in to do that, apparently because Vermont is so slow. Take a copy of your application "case was received" letter to show them you have applied. Apparently you don't need any particular reason to receive this visa.

I looked at him with incredulity because I couldn't believe it was that easy.

We are going "home" for six months and now my main worry is they will want us for an interview and we won't be able to get there in time. Does anyone have any advice there? The officer assured us they don't interview many people these days but of course we will be the 1%...

You can schedule an appointment with USCIS from their website. We were able to get an appointment within ten days. The process was quick and painless. See my comment below regarding a green card extension from the local office.

I think you should consult with a lawyer first, although the percentage for an interview is low but you should not bet with it. We have been waiting for almost a year and actually some December 2016 VSC filers had results. January 2016 VSC will have results soon. Anyway, hope for the best.

December filers are getting approved now so hopefully we will start getting approved soon. I'm planning to get a stamp if I don't get approved till January 11, 2017 the same day I sent my package in 2016, though I don't know how to do it yet.

We are approved!!! New card is being produced. We had received an RFE and replied to it on October 14th. So it took about a month after our RFE was received for us to be approved.

Congrats!

We just got approved after getting an RFE. After we submitted our response we did not receive any updates from USCIS until we were approved. It took a little less than a month from the time they got our RFE response until we were approved. Good luck.

Thanks for sharing and Congrats to you all by the way !!! I'm just hoping everything will be ok. It is around 3 weeks since USCIS received my REF docs. Fingers crossed...
