Hi all,

Im a bit worried as I just receive my N-400 NOA on 28 Dec 2015. I plan to go to Brazil in early May 2016.

Lets say my N-400 gets approved and oath done but I think US passport is yet arrived that time.

My concern is

- Can i still go traveling by my Brazilian passport?

- If so, how can I enter back to US? cause I think I will need to return my green card in the Oath.

What documents should I show at immigration check?

Anyone gets through this, please share your experience.

Thanks much!

hi

yes, you must travel with your foreign passport,

even if you pass the exam/interview, you aren't a USC yet, neither you should claim to be

until you get your oath ceremony and you hand in your GC and they hand you the naturalization certificate, you will travel internationally with your GC and foreign passport

now, if you get your oath done, then no you cannot travel with your foreign passport and you won't have your GC. you will need to get a US passport

there are offices that can issue a same day passport if you already have a ticket issued and need to fly urgently

Once you take the oath you are a US citizen.

Nobody will stop you from traveling to Brazil using your Brazilian passport, but to get back to the US you will need a US passport. You might:

* Apply for a US passport in the US and get it before you leave. You can apply directly at a passport agency if travel is very urgent

* Or, apply for a US passport in the US, then leave, and have someone receive it for you in the US and bring it to you in Brazil

* Or, apply for a US passport in Brazil

Appreciate your help. all 3 options are really great. I plan to make expedited passport. Since NOA on 12/28 till 05/06. I got full 4 months. wish I could finish the whole process :(

zzmr_qzz,

It is very important for you to understand that Brazil requires USC to have a valid passport and a tourist or business visa prior to boarding a plane.

Brazil allows for dual citizenship. As a Brazilian citizen, the OP would need a valid Brazilian passport and no visa to board a plane for Brazil. The OP would not need a US passport or Brazilian visitor visa to enter Brazil. The OP would need the US passport to return to the US.
