I am Canadian. I don't think the fact I wasnt born in canada should affect this but I have wondered the same question as you.

I was born in Guyana. It has a pretty good relationship with the US and Canada. I am not from a country that has any issue with the USA.

The fact that you were not born in Canada is definitely something that can affect the process. If your family is from a country that the U.S. has strained relations with or your name is one that draws negative attention then those are things to keep in mind. Not being John Smith the plain boring white dude from Canada or Susan Jones the dull housewife can all play a role in this.

Hmm I didnt see that thread... anyone have a link?

I also wanted to add- hows your medical? They are valid for 6 months I believe. It seems that if you had the first interview in July it may be close to expiring or already did... If thats the issue then that stinks as you will have to get a new one.

It expired on Dev 29th. I'm hoping I dont need a new one but we will see on Tuesday. This interview might not need to look at the medical. My police checks are good until February and March.

The medical could definitely be a problem because that is the date that will correspond to the visa in your passport. I'm assuming they didn't do anything with your passport correct?

You need a new medical. I suggest getting it done before the next interview or else you will be waiting again but this time for them to get a medical. The visa validity is based on 6 months from your medical date. Get the medical.

Just booked a medical. The only day I have for the appointment is tomorrow so most likely I will do it when I get back, if they do need it.

I am not sure if the visa is already in my passport or not tbh since they didn't request a new medical. I am just going to assume they will tell me to it at the appointment as they did with that other canadian lady, who had a second app....so being a bit more keen and booking the appointment just in case. If I get lucky and don't need it I can always cancel. If I do need it, I am ahead of the game and already have an appointment booked.

I just go the appointment date. Its two days after montreal.

I am hoping I get the results back quickly so I can send it off, if they need it. I am worried about leaving my passport in montreal though because I will be travelling internationally in March.

If I leave my passport with them and send the results right away, assuming I get the results during the week of 18-22 January, will that be enough time to get my passport back? From what I read, it takes a week to process evidence when they get it and then stamping the visa in the passport. If everything goes perfectly (HA!) then I could probably get my passport back in the second or third week in February. That is cutting it pretty close, especially since I will be travelling during the second week in March.

I think if I do have to do the medical - I'm like 75% sure I that I will - I will just request my passport back right then. Otherwise, it's just cutting it too close :-X

I will be back in canada, towards the end of March and then I will send my passport in...and then the stamp. Our second anniversary is on May 15th. I will probably wait and travel after that so we don't get the conditionnal visa. Wow...so much depends on this one appointment. Ahhhhhh.

I don't know why I just typed that all out...other than to figure out in my head what I need to do. hahah.

You will definitely need the medical because your visa isn't valid if the medical has already expired.

At least you found a positive in it, having the IR1 instead of the CR1 will be great!

They sent back my passport. The estimated delivery is today but depending on when it arrives I might need to pick it up on Monday morning, either way, I will take it to Montreal with me. It's looking more likely that I will definitely be having to redo the medical. The issue I just thought of though is that I might need to redo the police check's if I don't send in my passport right away. The police check's expire in February and March, so that more cash down the drain because of this endless process.

Basically, they wanted to confirm who I was face to face because apparently the first time wasnt good enough.

or something.

I don't remember hiding my identity with glasses a la clark kent, but who knows.

Went all the way down to Montreal. Arrived at ten, called in at 10:30.

The interview was 15 minutes.

They asked me my name, how tall I was, my parents names, where we lived and where I have l travelled to in the last ten years. They wanted to know if I ever travelled to the middle east ( I answered, nope <- exact word used), if I ever went to new york and when. They also asked me if I worked in accounting or finance, again I replied, "nope but I did date an accountant for a few months".

After the short and irrelevant interview, they sent me our side to wait and they looked through all my evidence again.

They called me back in an hour and a half later and told me that everything was good. Apparently, I passed my second interview just like I did my first. I was so so stunned I had to ask them twice. All I need to do was redo my medical and send it in, along with my passport. If I get everything to them before Feb 16, when my Canadian police check expires, I should have my visa in my passport and be ready to go.

Apparently, my case consultant changed and I had a new guy looking at my stuff.

GOBSMACKED.

I was put on nearly 6 months AP because they couldn't confirm my identity the first time even though they had two police checks, a retina scan, fingerprint scan, countless photographs and a new medical.

I am hoping this new consultant is more competent that the guy who was handling my case before.

I can only look at this extra time in Canada positively, though. If I left right away like I originally thought I would I couldn't have helped with a lot of things. I was able to help my mum move to a new place and was present for my nephew's birth. God's will is his own so I will just do my best to live within it :)

I'm sorry it was basically a waste of time. From the questions is sounds like maybe your name was similar to someone else that they had issues with? Or has a criminal record or something.

I was sitting in front of you at the consulate yesterday after you sat down from your first time being called in. I was going to say hi but didn't want to get anyone in trouble haha...everyone was so quiet.

Hopefully everything goes well from here on out.

I had my interview July 15th and have been on AP ever since. My medical is now expired so I'm guessing I'll be having to do the same thing as you. I find this so frustrating because this means I'll be Having haul myself and our two kids all the way to Montreal from Alberta again alone. I emailed the consulate Sunday afternoon but haven't heard back. Is there anything else I can do to find out if this is what's going to happen to me?
